Job Title: Vehicle Damage Assessor

Location: Newton Abbot, TQ12

Salary: £45,000-£50,000 (depending on experience and qualifications) + upselling bonus

Full Time and Permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday – 7am-4pm or 8am-5pm

Our client is a well-established Accident Repair Bodyshop Group who have an excellent reputation within the industry. Due to continued success and growth, they are looking to recruit an additional Vehicle Damage Assessor for their Bodyshop in Newton Abbot. The VDA / Estimator will also have responsibility for Parts within the Bodyshop as part of the role.

Purpose

Assessing recovered vehicles and reassesses extra damage found during strip-down, and receives, checks and issues every part that lands on site. Estimating standards and parts ordering are set centrally; this role owns the physical assessment and parts handling on site, and is line managed solely by the site Workshop Manager.

Daily Responsibilities

Assessing

  • Estimate recovered vehicles on arrival
  • Reassess any extra damage found on vehicles once stripped on site
  • Raise supplements and submit them for authorisation through the Group VDA
  • Confirm the repair method on site and make sure the job pack matches the vehicle
  • Flag any change in repair scope to the Workshop Manager and the Group VDA
  • Work to the estimate standard set by the Group VDA and accept spot checks against it

Parts

  • Receive and book in all parts deliveries against the order
  • Check every part for damage, correctness, and completeness before accepting it
  • Issue parts to technicians against the job and record the issue in the management system
  • Order any parts added by a reassessment through the Group Parts Controller
  • Flag parts discrepancies, shortages, and damage to the Group Parts Controller the same day
  • Raise and process parts returns and credits with the Group Parts Controller
  • Keep the parts store tidy, secure, and correctly located
  • Confirm that critical parts for tomorrow's cars are on site and complete

Meetings

  • Attend the daily support & flow stand-up, and attend weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings as required by the role

Key Accountabilities

  • Accuracy and safety of on-site assessments and prompt capture of supplements
  • Consistency with the group estimate standard set by the Group VDA
  • Accurate physical parts handling on site — right part, right job, right time
  • Integrity of the parts store, including stock security and location discipline
  • Protecting parts margin by returning and crediting unused parts promptly
  • Keeping the Workshop Manager and the central team informed of any change in scope
  • Accuracy and currency of all assessment and parts information in the management system

  • Organised parts handling and stock discipline
  • Knowledge of insurer and work-provider processes and methods
  • Strong attention to detail with discrepancies and paperwork
  • Clear, collaborative, and authoritative communication with site and group colleagues
  • Candidates must have a full and valid UK driving licence
