Vehicle Maintenance Technician (ID) – FedEx Express UK Transportation Limited

About the Role

Join FedEx as a fully skilled Heavy Goods Vehicle Maintenance Technician in our Vehicle Maintenance Unit, Thetford. We are seeking a self-motivated individual to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of FedEx’s fleet of vehicles and trailers.

Position Summary You will ensure that our vehicles remain legal, safe, and ready for duty by completing planned maintenance, investigations, repairs, and legacy projects while maintaining our high safety standards in alignment with operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing signed service and inspection records, defect reports, and associated paperwork to comply with legal requirements.
  • Preparing vehicles and trailers for annual MOT testing, ensuring a first-time pass.
  • Performing ad-hoc vehicle repairs and rectifying defects using diagnostics, tests, and basic repairs.
  • Maintaining high standards for tool, plant, and equipment safety, following operational standards.
  • Upholding practices for housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Conducting any other duties deemed reasonable by management.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 14:00 - 22:30
  • Friday: 13:00 - 21:30
  • Total Weekly: 40 hours

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay: £21.70/hour
  • Premium pay:
    • £2.13/hour for hours worked 7pm – 10pm
    • £2.58/hour for hours worked 10pm – 6am
  • 22 days holiday per year, increasing to 27 days after every full year worked (Jan–Dec).

Requirements & Qualifications

We are looking for applicants with:

  • Fully skilled in Heavy Goods Vehicle maintenance with relevant Licence/Vocational Training, such as LGV (HGV) C&E (Class 1) licence.
  • City & Guilds Parts 1 & 2 qualification (or equivalent) in commercial vehicle repairs.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in using and operating automotive equipment, diagnostic tools, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy vehicle components safely.
  • Experience with welding and basic DC electrical troubleshooting.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Previous experience in a similar maintenance or auto repair role.
