Summary
The apprentice will be working alongside fully qualified body paint technicians to be fully trained in preparing and painting repaired panels. You'll be responsible for undertaking paint repair and restoration work on all makes of motor vehicles, whilst achieving the highest standards possible.
Wage: £17,728.62 a year
Training course: Vehicle damage paint technician (level 3)
Hours: Monday- Friday, 8.30am- 5.00pm (Weekend work maybe included). 40 hours a week
Start date: Monday 2 November 2026
Duration: 2 years

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Dipping and spraying- spray painting involves operating a spray gun and other machinery
- They use formulas to mix the paint that goes into the spray gun
- They adjust the flow and viscosity of their paint and control the air pressure to the spray gun by adjusting the nozzle
- Other job duties include properly disposing of hazardous waste, following colour charts and removing rust
- Paint technicians must disassemble, clean and reassemble their painting equipment

Training course: Vehicle damage paint technician (level 3)
What you'll learn
- Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair e.g. substrate surface preparation, paint volume calculation etc
- Ability to correctly identify the substrate materials to be refinished e.g. plastic, steel, aluminium etc
- Ability to interpret relevant technical data and methods to create paint manufactures specified application
- Ability to use refinishing materials following paint manufacturer specifications to reinstate vehicle finish back to high quality
- Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process e.g mixing systems, paint booths, UV lamps and spray equipment
Training schedule
Vehicle Damage Paint Technician Level 3 Training would be block release every 6-8 weeks to the Skillnet approved Milton Keynes college. Functional Skills in maths and English, if required.
