Restricted to Street and Waste Employees or Employees in the Council’s formal redeployment pool.

Eligibility

This vacancy is only available for applications from existing Internal Plymouth City Council employees and Agency Workers who are in an active placement and have 12 weeks continuous service. Applications submitted by External candidates who do not meet this criteria will not be considered and will be rejected.

Location – Prince Rock Depot

Status – Permanent

Hours per week – 37

Weeks per year – 52

Grade – C (£25,583 – £26,403)

We are looking for a motivated and reliable Vehicle Preparation Operative to join our Street Scene & Waste Service team.

This is an exciting opportunity to support frontline waste and environmental services by ensuring vehicles, plant, equipment and waste containers are cleaned, maintained and prepared to a high standard for workshop maintenance, MOT preparation and operational use.

Key Duties Include

  • Cleaning and preparing vehicles, plant and equipment before maintenance and MOT inspections.
  • Re-cleaning vehicles following maintenance work to ensure they are ready for operational use.
  • Operating vehicle wash facilities, ramps and associated equipment safely.
  • Maintaining wash bays and transfer station areas, ensuring they remain clean, safe and operational.
  • Carrying out routine maintenance of wash bay equipment.
  • Cleaning waste and recycling containers and undertaking basic repairs where required.
  • Maintaining accurate paper and electronic records.
  • Monitoring stock levels of cleaning chemicals and consumables.
  • Working in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, COSHH requirements and safe systems of work.
  • Reporting defects, maintenance issues and safety concerns to the Team Leader.
  • Undertaking training as required and carrying out other duties appropriate to the grade.

You will normally be required to work 37 hours per week, over a 5-day period Monday to Friday.

This will be worked subject to the needs of the service and may be subject to change on Bank Holidays.

This role provides access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, a robust sickness support scheme and other Council employment benefits, subject to successful completion of your probation period.
