Diagnostic & Vehicle Technician
Location: Edinburgh
Basic Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications
OTE / Earnings: Realistic earnings of £45,000-£50,000+ including performance-related bonus
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Monday to Friday - no regular weekend working

ISQ Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Diagnostic & Vehicle Technician to join a well-established and expanding independent automotive workshop in Edinburgh.
The business is investing in additional workshop premises that will significantly increase its capacity, making this an excellent opportunity to join during an exciting period of growth.
This position would suit a skilled Diagnostic Technician, Vehicle Technician, Motor Mechanic or Automotive Technician who enjoys combining servicing and mechanical repairs with detailed electrical and diagnostic fault-finding.
You will work across a broad variety of cars, vans up to 3.5 tonnes and campervans, giving you a varied workload and the opportunity to continue developing your technical knowledge.
The Role
You will carry out servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and mechanical repairs across a wide range of vehicle makes and models.
Using modern diagnostic equipment, technical data and your own fault-finding ability, you will investigate vehicle issues properly, identify the root cause and complete repairs to a consistently high professional standard.
The workshop is particularly interested in technicians who are curious, adaptable and willing to learn as hybrid, electric, high-voltage and diagnostic technology continues to develop.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine vehicle servicing and preventative maintenance
- Complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer specifications
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle faults
- Use modern diagnostic equipment and technical information to identify faults accurately
- Investigate warning lights, engine-management issues and electrical problems
- Carry out general mechanical repairs across multiple makes and models
- Complete braking, steering and suspension repairs
- Carry out clutch, exhaust and cooling-system repairs
- Complete timing-belt repairs and replacements
- Undertake wet-belt repairs where appropriately experienced
- Diagnose emissions, DPF, AdBlue and performance-related faults
- Carry out vehicle inspections and health checks
- Conduct road tests before and after repairs where required
- Accurately record completed work, parts used and technical findings
- Identify additional repair requirements and report them clearly
- Liaise with the workshop and service teams regarding repair progress
- Manage an assigned workload efficiently
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail
- Use workshop tools and equipment safely and correctly
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
- Follow all company health and safety procedures
What We're Looking For
- Level 3 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent
- Previous experience as a Vehicle Technician, Diagnostic Technician, Motor Mechanic or Service Technician
- Strong servicing and general mechanical repair ability
- Good diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Experience using modern vehicle diagnostic equipment
- Understanding of mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle systems
- A curious and methodical approach to identifying faults
- Willingness to continue learning and developing technically
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative workshop team
- Humble, adaptable and team-focused attitude
- Good attention to detail
- Pride in the quality of completed work
- Ability to manage an assigned workload efficiently
- Full UK driving licence

An MOT testing qualification would be advantageous but is not essential, as development towards becoming an MOT Tester may be available for the right candidate.
Hybrid or electric vehicle qualifications, high-voltage experience, manufacturer training or previous experience working on 4x4 vehicles, Land Rovers, vans or campervans would also be beneficial.
