Vehicle Technician

Salary: £40,000-£45,000 per annum, depending on experience

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm

Job Type: Permanent

About the role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Level 3 Vehicle Technician to join a well-established independent garage with a strong reputation and a loyal customer base.

The garage services, maintains, diagnoses and repairs a wide range of vehicles, providing customers with a complete automotive service. Due to continued growth and an expanding customer base, they are looking to add an experienced technician to the team.

This is a genuinely varied, hands-on position where no two days will be the same. You will work across a wide range of makes and models, carrying out everything from routine servicing and maintenance through to diagnostics and more complex mechanical repairs.

The role would suit a technician who enjoys variety, takes pride in their workmanship and is confident working independently while also being part of a small, friendly team.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing and vehicle maintenance.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment.
  • Carry out fault finding and identify the cause of vehicle issues.
  • Complete general mechanical repairs and maintenance.
  • Carry out brake, suspension and steering repairs.
  • Replace clutches, timing belts and timing chains.
  • Carry out engine and cooling system repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair exhaust and emissions-related issues.
  • Carry out battery, starting and charging system repairs.
  • Complete pre-MOT inspections and MOT-related repairs.
  • Inspect vehicles and identify additional repairs or maintenance requirements.
  • Work efficiently while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
  • Use workshop equipment and tools safely and correctly.
  • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
  • Complete relevant job sheets and workshop documentation.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure vehicles are completed to the required standard and timescale.

About you

The successful candidate will be a Level 3 qualified Vehicle Technician with previous hands-on workshop experience.

You should be confident carrying out servicing, diagnostics and general mechanical repairs across a variety of vehicles and be able to work through jobs methodically from diagnosis to completion.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Level 3 qualified in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent.
  • Experienced as a Vehicle Technician.
  • Confident with diagnostics and fault finding.
  • Experienced carrying out servicing and general repairs.
  • Comfortable working on a variety of makes and models.
  • Reliable, organised and hardworking.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Quality-focused with strong attention to detail.
  • Professional and customer-focused.
  • Keen to develop their skills and progress with a growing business.

MOT qualification

MOT Tester certification is desirable but not essential.

If you are not currently MOT certified, the garage is happy to support the right candidate through their MOT Tester qualification and will pay for the training.

This is a great opportunity for a qualified technician who wants to add MOT testing to their skill set and develop further within an established independent garage.
