Vehicle Technician

Barnsley Council have 2 exciting opportunities for a Vehicle Technician to join the team based in Barnsley. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £36,581 - £39,481 per annum.

We have a unique opportunity within Fleet Services, based in the busy Depot Services team at Smithies Lane Depot. This is your chance to play a key role in supporting essential council services delivered across our communities.

We are seeking a skilled and professional Vehicle Technician with experience in electric vehicle (EV) maintenance and repair, and a proven track record of working within a diverse and demanding fleet operation. You will be committed to maintaining the highest standards of vehicle safety, reliability, and service quality across a wide range of assets.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to diagnose and repair faults efficiently, work to strict deadlines, and provide accurate and detailed maintenance records while consistently upholding the highest standards of health and safety.

As part of a dedicated workshop team, you will help deliver a high-quality, cost-effective fleet maintenance service, ensuring vehicles and equipment remain safe, compliant, and available to support the delivery of council services.

Using your technical expertise in both conventional and electric vehicle technologies, you will contribute to the maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of the council's fleet. You will also support the transition to low-emission and zero-emission vehicles by applying your knowledge of EV systems, battery technology, and associated safety procedures.

You will be expected to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, provide technical insight to support decision-making, and help identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service delivery within a challenging operational environment.

The role also involves supporting and mentoring colleagues and apprentices, sharing knowledge and best practice while helping to promote the Council's values and commitment to excellent customer service.
