Nu Group is looking for an experienced, proactive and customer-focused Venue Operations Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day cleaning, facilities and associated operational activities at Tobacco Dock, London.

This is a key on-site management position responsible for leading our cleaning and janitorial teams, planning resources, managing subcontractors and ensuring consistently high standards of service across the venue.

You will be the primary point of contact for day-to-day operational matters and will work closely with the Tobacco Dock client team, security, event teams and Nu Group management to ensure the venue operates smoothly and efficiently.

Tobacco Dock is an events-led venue and the operational requirements will vary according to its event schedule. The successful candidate will therefore need to be flexible in their approach to working hours and confident planning their own time around the needs of the venue.

This is a 5 days out of 7 position. Depending on the event and operational schedule, working patterns may include weekends, early mornings, evenings and late nights. The Venue Operations Manager will be expected to plan their working week responsibly, ensuring appropriate management coverage at key operational times while balancing their working hours accordingly.

This role will suit someone who enjoys taking ownership, leading people, planning ahead, solving problems and developing strong client relationships in a fast-moving operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Site & Operational Management

  • Take ownership of the daily operation and delivery of Nu Group services at Tobacco Dock.
  • Ensure contractual requirements and agreed service standards are consistently achieved.
  • Attend weekly operational meetings with the client and relevant Nu Group management.
  • Provide leadership, supervision and direction to cleaning, janitorial and facilities teams.
  • Carry out regular site inspections and proactively identify areas requiring attention.
  • Monitor standards across cleaning, pest control, sanitary services and associated facilities requirements.
  • Ensure corrective actions are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Act as the first point of response for day-to-day on-site enquiries relating to cleaning, waste management and associated services.
  • Plan and coordinate the movement of Facilities Improvers across the site, ensuring responsibilities are clearly understood across the two separate contracts.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the venue, its operational requirements and Nu Group's contractual responsibilities.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve service delivery, efficiency and site standards.

People Management

  • Lead, manage and support Nu Group employees on site, ensuring professional standards and appropriate behaviours are maintained.
  • Provide clear direction to team members and ensure roles, responsibilities and expectations are understood.
  • Ensure staffing levels are appropriate for day-to-day operations and upcoming events.
  • Plan staffing and management coverage around the venue's event programme.
  • Identify training and retraining requirements and work with the relevant teams to address development or performance needs.
  • Ensure all operatives comply with Nu Group health and safety policies, site procedures and client requirements.
  • Manage performance and conduct issues appropriately, escalating to the relevant Nu Group management or HR team where required.
  • Support HR-related matters on site where appropriate.
  • Promote a positive, professional and accountable working culture across the site team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
