Are you an experienced Veterinary Care Assistant looking for an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new practice where you can genuinely be part of its journey from the beginning?
At Vets for Pets Ballymena, we’re building a friendly, down-to-earth and hardworking team with big ambitions for our practice.
We’re now looking for a Veterinary Care Assistant to join us and play an important role in supporting our veterinary and nursing team, caring for our patients and helping us deliver a fantastic experience for pets and their owners.
About Us
You’ll be joining a small and close-knit team led by our Veterinary Surgeon, who graduated 10 years ago and has been working in the UK ever since. He is working towards a certificate in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery and Orthopaedics, with particular interests in advanced soft tissue procedures and orthopaedic surgery.
Alongside our vet, you’ll work closely with our Head RVN, who has five years of experience working in veterinary practice. You’ll also work alongside our reception team, helping us create a supportive and welcoming environment for both clients and their pets.
We’re friendly, hardworking and ambitious, and we’re looking for someone who wants to become an important part of the team as the practice grows.
The Role
As our Veterinary Care Assistant, you’ll be an important part of the day-to-day running of the practice, providing hands-on support to our veterinary and nursing teams while helping ensure our patients receive a high standard of care.
We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, organised and proactive, with a genuine passion for animal welfare and the confidence to work as part of a busy clinical team.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Supporting our vets and nurses with the care and handling of patients
- Helping to prepare consulting rooms and clinical areas
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the practice
- Supporting the team with general patient care and monitoring
- Assisting with the smooth running of the practice and keeping clinical areas well stocked and organised
- Providing a calm, caring and compassionate approach to pets during their time with us
- Working closely with the wider practice team to provide a great experience for our clients and their pets
Previous experience within a veterinary practice would be beneficial, but most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is passionate about animal care, enjoys working as part of a close-knit team and is keen to get involved in building a successful new practice.
A brand-new practice in Ballymena
You’ll be based within Pets at Home at Braidwater Retail Park, with the practice forming part of the wider Pets at Home and grooming environment.
The retail park has plenty nearby, including B&M, Currys and PureGym, with Smyths, The Range and Sainsbury’s also close by. For lunch or a caffeine fix, Lidl, Costa, Tim Hortons and KFC are all nearby.
Ballymena town centre is just a 5 to 10-minute walk away, and for days off exploring, the North Coast is approximately a 20-minute drive away.
There’s also free parking in the large retail park car park, so you won’t need to worry about finding a space before your shift.

Hours & Salary
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, initially Monday to Friday, although the working pattern may change as the practice grows.
The role will also include 1 in 2 Saturday mornings, from 9am to 1pm.
We’re offering a salary in line with National Minimum Wage.
