Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists Ophthalmology Internship

Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is looking for an enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to join our Ophthalmology team for a 12-month ophthalmology internship.

This position is ideally suited to a veterinary surgeon with a strong interest in ophthalmology who is looking to develop their knowledge, clinical skills and experience within a busy specialist referral environment. It would provide excellent preparation for candidates considering pursuing an ophthalmology residency and specialist training in the future.

SCVS is a large multidisciplinary specialist referral hospital serving patients and referring veterinary surgeons across the South of England.

Our Ophthalmology service manages a diverse caseload encompassing medical and surgical ophthalmology, including corneal disease and surgery, cataract surgery, glaucoma, uveitis, retinal disease, ocular emergencies and complex adnexal and intraocular surgery.

The department has access to an extensive range of specialist ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical equipment, including operating microscopes and microsurgical instrumentation, phacoemulsification, electroretinography, ocular ultrasonography and advanced ophthalmic imaging.

As part of a multidisciplinary referral hospital, our ophthalmologists work closely with colleagues in other specialist disciplines, providing excellent exposure to complex cases where ocular disease forms part of a wider systemic or neurological condition.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
