£40,000 - £65,000 FTE, DOE | Full or Part-Time | Flexible Hours
Are you looking for a veterinary role where you’ll have the support to develop, the freedom to make your own clinical decisions and a working pattern that fits around your life?
At Portsmouth Vets for Pets, we’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our independently owned, veterinary-led practice. Whether you’re building your confidence in practice, already an experienced GP vet, or looking for a role that gives you greater flexibility, we’d be happy to hear from you.
Full-time and part-time applications are welcome, and we’re open to discussing different hours and working patterns to find something that works for both you and the practice.
An owner-led practice where your voice matters
The practice has been owned and run by experienced GP Veterinary Surgeon Justyn Loveridge since 2012. This means our clinical standards and working culture are shaped within the practice by people who understand what working in general practice is really like.

We want our vets to practise good medicine, develop their clinical judgement and have the time and support to make thoughtful decisions rather than feeling focused simply on throughput.

- 15-minute consultations as standard
- An open-door approach to case discussion and clinical support
- Continuity of care, allowing you to follow your cases through
- Genuine clinical autonomy, with support whenever you need it
- No out-of-hours commitments
- No expectation to take on management responsibilities unless that is something you would like to explore

We place a strong emphasis on mentoring and professional development, and previous vets from the practice have progressed into senior clinical roles and specialist training.
About the practice
Portsmouth Vets for Pets is a busy first-opinion small animal practice with a stable and supportive team.
Our focus is on creating an environment where people enjoy coming to work, feel comfortable asking questions and have the opportunity to build lasting relationships with clients and their pets.
We believe in clear communication, pragmatic clinical decision-making and a transparent approach to treatment planning.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who shares that approach. You don’t need to fit a particular number of years in practice to be considered.

- Enjoy general practice and managing their own cases
- Want to continue developing their medical and/or surgical skills
- Take a thoughtful approach to clinical decision-making
- Communicate well with clients and colleagues
- Enjoy building relationships with clients and following cases through
- Value clinical autonomy while being part of a supportive team

Salary and benefits
- £40,000 - £55,000 depending on experience
- Full-time and part-time opportunities
- Flexible working patterns considered
- Generous CPD allowance with further development encouraged
- RCVS and VDS fees paid
