I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

A rota designed for work-life balance
We offer a 4-day working week, with a 1:6 full weekend rota.
There is also a shared responsibility for out-of-hours on-call and Bank Holiday cover, which is provided through our 24-hour practice in Southend. As this is shared across the wider network, these shifts are rarely required, giving you a good balance between providing excellent patient care and enjoying your time away from work.
Life in Canvey Island
Canvey Island offers a great balance between work and life outside the practice. There are good transport links into London, making it an accessible location for those who want to enjoy everything London has to offer without living in the city.
Closer to home, the practice is near the seawall, perfect for a walk and some fresh air after work, with the surrounding marshes and downs providing plenty of opportunities to get outdoors.
