  • Hours: 37.5 hr average week
  • Days Off: Same routine day off each week
  • Weekend Work: 1 in 4 weekend (Friday night inpatient cover and Saturday 8.30-5pm)

Scott Veterinary Clinic Ltd is an accredited Small Animal Veterinary Hospital committed to providing professional and compassionate care for pets 24/7, year-round. The clinic is an Approved Veterinary Nurse Training Practice and a Vetsure Graduate Friendly Practice, with experienced vets qualified as VetGDP Advisors and Advanced Practitioners in Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, and Small Animal Medicine.

The team includes knowledgeable, friendly reception staff working to BVRA standards, many of whom hold bronze, silver, or gold awards. Scott Veterinary Clinic invests in staff development, supporting post-graduate qualifications to ensure high clinical standards and excellent client service. The clinic also maintains a welcoming, social environment with optional team events, helping colleagues feel connected both in and out of work.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Veterinary Surgeon role based in Bedford. The Veterinary Surgeon will provide high-quality clinical care to small animals, including performing surgical procedures, diagnosing and treating medical conditions, and managing inpatient and outpatient cases.

Day-to-day responsibilities

  • Conducting consultations
  • Creating treatment plans
  • Interpreting diagnostic tests
  • Collaborating with nurses and support staff to ensure safe and effective patient care
  • Communicating clearly with clients, providing guidance on pet care and preventive medicine
  • Maintaining accurate medical records

Qualifications

  • Strong skills in Veterinary Surgery and Veterinary Medicine, with the ability to perform routine and complex procedures safely and effectively.
  • Competence in Medicine and Pet Care, including diagnostic reasoning, treatment planning, and advising clients on preventive health and welfare.
  • Laboratory Skills and familiarity with Veterinary Medicine diagnostics, such as sample collection, interpretation of lab results, and use of imaging and other diagnostic tools.
  • Recognized veterinary degree (e.g., MRCVS or equivalent) and eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional body.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working in a multidisciplinary clinical team.
  • Commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and ongoing professional development, including interest in further certifications or specialisms.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy hospital environment, demonstrating sound judgment, empathy, and resilience.
