Following the success of Plymouth Woolwell Vets for Pets, practice owner Jo Manby has now taken on the ownership of Plymouth Vets for Pets on Exeter Street, along with her experienced Head Nurse Sam Job and with exciting plans to develop their new practice, they now have an unmissable opportunity for an experienced vet to join them at this exciting time. About our owners Having qualified from Bristol in 2010, Jo then opened Plymouth’s sister practice in Woolwell in 2015, so as well as having an ESVPS General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Surgery, a Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice and all the theory completed towards an exotics certificate, Jo has unparalleled experience of running a successful practice and looking after a team that thrives under her guidance and support. With Sam’s additional experience both in a Managerial role and as a Head Nurse and with their passion for teaching, by joining Plymouth Vets for Pets in this period of change we can guarantee both the opportunity to utilise all your veterinary and people skills whilst also ensuring you’re able to develop and nurture news ones, surrounded by a supportive team. The team We’re still growing but as well as experienced practice owners Jo and Sam who are onsite every day, you’ll also be working alongside Lead Vet Kendall and an experienced team of nurses, and a dedicated non-clinical team. Sam encourages schedule 3 which not only gives real quality to the nurses role, but in turn also supports our vets in their daily routine too. Our work environment The practice is in a central location in Plymouth and as well as a designated colleague area, facilities at our purpose-built practice include 4 consult rooms, operating theatre, central preparation room, separate cat and dog wards and all the equipment you would expect from a leading GP practice. Jo and Sam also have plans to invest in new state of the art equipment starting with ultrasound and dental x-ray, as well working towards silver cat and rabbit accreditation so whatever your area of interest, they’d love to hear from you. The role and you As a small but growing team and seeing a varied caseload including cats, dogs, rabbits and small furries, we are looking for a forward-thinking vet with previous experience in a UK small animal GP practice. Confident in all aspects of everyday small animal medicine and surgery, we’re also looking for a team player with great communication skills and someone who shares our passion to develop the practice whilst continuing to provide the highest level of veterinary care. Ideally a full-time position, we can consider more flexible options too with the rota also including just 1 in 3 or 4 Saturdays from 9am-3pm. There will be no OOH. The offer In addition to a rewarding role with development opportunities, we’re also offering:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

And there’s more! For those not local to the area, you’ll find that Plymouth has a great deal to offer too. The practice is situated on the South Devon Coast which as well as the role itself, must be one of the main selling points. There is surfing (or a simple dog walk) on the local outstanding beaches, walks on Dartmoor, socialising on the Barbican, relaxing on the Hoe and Cornwall is also just a very short drive away. Plymouth also benefits from a good rail service and ferry connections to France and surrounds and is within a reasonable distance to Exeter and Newquay airports too.
