Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal

Heathside Vets - Southampton

Salary up to £70,000 DOE, up to £5,000 welcome bonus and relocation allowance up to £5,000

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we're trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Heathside Vets, part of ivc, is looking for an enthusiastic Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, progressive and supportive team. With a long-established client base and a stable team who know and trust each other, this is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a practice where you can build lasting relationships with both clients and colleagues.

More Than First Opinion

  • You’ll enjoy a varied mix of consultations and surgery, with plenty of opportunity to work cases up thoroughly and develop the areas of clinical work that interest you most.
  • Alongside the usual first-opinion caseload, you’ll have the chance to get involved with orthopaedics, laparoscopy, BOAS surgery, cardiology and a wide range of medical investigations.
  • We’d be particularly interested to hear from Vets with an interest in ophthalmology, although this certainly isn’t essential.
  • And if you’re thinking about pursuing a certificate, we’ll support you in developing your skills and taking the next step in your career.

The Tools to Do Great Work

  • Our converted-house practice, with several extensions, is a welcoming and well-equipped space, giving you access to a great range of facilities and equipment.
  • This includes ultrasound and cardiac ultrasound, digital and dental X-ray, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, rhinoscopy and surgical laser, as well as orthopaedic equipment including MMP and SOP kits.
  • Having so much capability in-house means we can investigate and treat many cases within the practice that might traditionally have required referral, giving you the opportunity to build your clinical skills while providing continuity of care for your patients.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
