I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

DON'T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT

"I started at De Montfort Vets as a Trainee Veterinary Nurse. I was welcomed into the team and over the years, I have advanced my career more than I ever thought would be possible. I am very proud of the high standards of care we offer, and how the team all work together to ensure we are doing the very best for our patients. Now I have a young family, and the practice have been very supportive with my hours and shifts to allow me to maintain a workable routine and a good work/life balance. I am looking forward to many more happy years with my team of wonderful colleagues”

Jenny, Deputy Head Nurse

*"Joining de Montfort Vets nearly three years ago was one of the biggest steps in my life. I moved to the UK from another country not knowing what to expect, but this practice quickly became my second home. The team welcomed me with so much warmth that my colleagues have genuinely become close friends, not just people I work with.

From reception to the nursing team and my fellow vets, everyone is kind, supportive, and truly united. There’s a real sense of family here — the kind where you feel understood, valued, and encouraged to grow.

Being part of the IVC group has also helped me take important steps forward in my career, including supporting me through my Small Animal Surgery certificate. That support has made a huge difference in my confidence and development. The practice has recently been refurbished, and it now feels modern, fresh, and welcoming — a space we’re all proud of. But what I appreciate most is the clinical freedom and trust I’m given. I can work up my cases as I feel is best, knowing the team is behind me. We are a group of vets with different levels of experience and each of us has our own areas of interest, which means there is always someone to learn from, share ideas with, or discuss cases in a supportive way.

I genuinely enjoy my job here. We are a bonded, united practice, and I feel proud to be part of it every day"*

Maria
