12-month maternity cover contract with Overdale Vets, Buxton
Up to £55,000 (DOE)

Buxton Vets, who are a proud member of the inspiring vet care network, are looking for a vet to cover a 12-month fixed term contract. Ideally, the position would require you to work an average of 40 hours per week, covering a 4 day week. There's 1:6 Friday evenings (17:30 - 19:00) and 1:6 Saturdays (08:00 - 16:00).
How You’ll Make a Difference
As a Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding caseload.
- You’ll continue to develop your clinical skills and interests while sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing positively to the clinical culture of the practice.
- You’ll be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering excellent care and supporting the ongoing development of those around you.
About us
Overdale Veterinary Centre is based in the picturesque spa town of Buxton, nestled in the Peak District. The clinic has a classical feel about it, with the ethos of providing a high standard of clinical care to our clients across the board. We have 3 small animal consulting rooms (2 vet and 1 nurse), one dedicated operating theatre, an imaging suite (digital x-ray, ultrasound and endoscopy plus Dental x-ray arriving soon...), prep area with dental facilities and in house laboratory. We have separate cat and dog kennels.

We are currently a 4FT and 2PT vet team ranging from 1 year to 18 years of experience. We have small animal medicine certificate holders, with another in progress. This gives a wide breath of skills and experience which enables us to support and mentor new additions. We are a nurse training practice and have 3 FT & 4 PT qualified nurses, with several ECC certificate holders. On reception we have a dedicated team who manage the front of house.
A fantastic place to work
With the Peak District literally on your doorstep you can undertake a wide variety of outdoor pursuits in your leisure time, including rock climbing, cycling, angling and walking. Buxton also benefits from the Buxton Opera House which has a very good line up. If you are missing the big city then Manchester is only a short train ride away. There is a lot to do in Buxton and we are a very social practice and frequently have nights out, BBQs and weekend activities.
You Might Be a Great Fit If...
You are a confident and motivated veterinary surgeon who enjoys working as part of a team and is committed to delivering high-quality patient and client care. You’ll bring:
- A Veterinary degree and registration (or eligibility to register) with the RCVS
- Experience working in clinical practice with growing confidence in routine medical and surgical cases
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues
- A proactive approach to learning, with openness to feedback and development
- Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- A passion for delivering excellent patient and client care
