About the Role
Our Client’s practice is a progressive independent small animal surgery based in Northamptonshire and is looking to hire an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its supportive and collaborative team. The role offers excellent clinical freedom, strong development opportunities and the chance to help shape the practice as it continues to grow.

Working Hours / Rota
The practice can offer either a four or five-day working week, although most Veterinary Surgeons choose to work across four days. Shifts are a mixture of 8am–7pm, 8am–5pm and 8am–4pm.
The weekend rota is shared on a 1:4 basis, covering Saturdays from 9am–3pm and Sundays from 10am–3pm. There are no out-of-hours duties or overnight inpatient responsibilities, as these are outsourced to a dedicated local provider.

Role Description
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will manage a varied first opinion caseload across consultations, medicine and surgery. The practice places a strong emphasis on continuity, allowing vets to follow cases through properly and build trusted long-term relationships with clients and patients.
There is excellent scope to develop surgical skills, pursue a certificate or build a particular clinical interest. Support includes hands-on mentorship, funded CPD and regular development meetings focused on clinical progression, career goals and work-life balance.
Team Size
The team currently consists of five Veterinary Surgeons, four Registered Veterinary Nurses, one Student Veterinary Nurse, two Veterinary Care Assistants and an experienced client care team.
Clinical interests across the team include surgery, medicine, imaging, anaesthesia and emergency and critical care, creating a collaborative environment with plenty of opportunities for case discussion and shared learning.

Practice Details
The practice provides a high standard of first opinion medicine and surgery from a modern and thoughtfully designed environment. Facilities include separate cat and dog waiting areas, air conditioning, underfloor heating and recently expanded inpatient facilities.
Equipment includes digital and dental radiography, high-quality ultrasound, an in-house laboratory, dedicated surgical facilities and laparoscopy. Further investment is planned in rhinoscopy and gastroscopy, alongside a new purpose-built 400m² clinic scheduled for 2027.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with at least 18 months of small animal experience and confidence managing a varied first opinion caseload.
They should enjoy working collaboratively, building long-term client relationships and continuing to develop clinically. Certificate holders and Veterinary Surgeons with a particular area of interest are also encouraged to apply.
