Amazon MGM Studios, the production and development arm of Amazon, creates content exclusively for Prime Video customers globally. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented VFX Manager to join our team in the UK and support the ambitious slate of International Originals. This key role will manage VFX workflows from development through delivery, supporting VFX budgets, schedules, planning, and production partner relationships. The role involves close collaboration with internal teams including Production, Post-Production, Business Affairs, Creative, and Development, as well as our production partners and third-party vendors.
The ideal candidate will bring solid experience in VFX production, combining skills as a VFX Producer or VFX Manager, with a comprehensive understanding of the scripted TV and film landscape. We're looking for someone with strong organizational and interpersonal skills who is building industry relationships.
This position requires a dynamic, self-motivated individual who can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The successful applicant will support numerous projects in various stages of development, production, and post-production, while engaging frequently with industry professionals. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of UK and European content on a global streaming platform.
Key job responsibilities
- Manage VFX needs across a selected slate of UK and European Scripted Series and Movies, reporting to the Head of VFX, International, in line with Amazon MGM's International Originals priorities
- Support the greenlight process for VFX through collaboration with production, creative, post, business affairs, and finance teams
- Develop internal VFX assessments and breakdowns from creative materials, scripts, storyboards, and pre-vis
- Support Production Companies in planning for VFX by providing management and guidance on methodology, breakdowns, budgets, talent, and schedules
- Build and maintain relationships with leading VFX vendors and talent, supporting key negotiations and partnerships
- Assist in the development and maintenance of department databases to track all aspects of project management, vendor capabilities, talent availability pools, and resource allocation
- Oversee vendor selection, bid evaluation, and work allocation processes for assigned projects
- Recommend vendors for assigned projects and manage vendor issues, developing solutions to address them
- Support VFX budget tracking, schedules, deliverables, and status reporting with production companies
- Review VFX deliverables to ensure quality standards are met
- Identify and resolve production challenges while maintaining creative integrity and keeping to budget
- Coordinate with internal teams for marketing, promotional, and publicity needs
- Establish efficient workflow processes between creative, production, and post-production departments
- Manage internal and external show data through studio-based databases and internal communication tools to minimize disruption and meet delivery targets
- Take ownership of smaller to mid-sized shows with little to no oversight, covering all aspects of VFX production from project inception through delivery
- Act as the main point of contact with Production Companies on assigned projects, managing administrative duties, VFX workflows, and coordination including VFX assessments, breakdowns, vendor and talent selection, advising on contracts, payment schedules, and ProdCo management and reporting through all phases of production
- Facilitate progress, identify blockers, and increase the visibility of issues, providing improvement recommendations that enhance project efficiency and effectiveness
- Optimise procedures, processes, and best practices at the production level
- Model Amazon's culture and values, serving as an ambassador for the VFX team and wider business

Basic Qualifications:
- Experience in VFX production management roles within a production company or VFX vendor environment
- VFX expertise with a solid understanding of the VFX production process from script breakdown to final delivery
- Strong project management skills with a proven track record of managing schedules and budgets, problem-solving production challenges, and delivering creative solutions while upholding quality standards
- Outstanding organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in English (C2)
- Working knowledge of VFX facilities and freelance VFX talent pools
- Strong proficiency with production and post software such as ShotGrid, Airtable, and similar platforms

Preferred Qualifications:
- Established network and knowledge of VFX vendors and emerging regional hubs
- Familiarity with VFX trends and emerging technology with the ability to assess impact on creative, budget, and schedule
- Strong eye for quality control, with the ability to evaluate VFX work against both creative and technical standards
- Experience with global SVOD delivery workflows and understanding of content distribution requirements
- Proven experience in digital media workflows and post-production processes across various formats
- Experience working with UK and European production entities, understanding regional requirements and standards
- Ability to gather data and provide reliable, pertinent information for executive action
- Even-tempered with grace under pressure and collaborative problem-solving abilities
- Passionate about Amazon's Culture and Leadership Principles in the workplace
- Proficiency in additional European languages is a plus
