This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. We’ll provide an approximate number of hours you may be asked to work, however there is no obligation for work to be offered, and there’s no obligation for you to accept the work offered.
The Opportunity
Barnsley College is seeking an experienced and dynamic Teacher to deliver Construction-related subjects including Health and Safety, Employability, and Industrial Development.
Working with the Course Leader and wider Construction team, you will plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons using appropriate teaching methodologies that support learner achievement and progression.
Teaching will be delivered online through Microsoft Teams, with learners submitting completed work electronically.
You will be responsible for assessing student work, providing timely marking, assessment and feedback, and monitoring learner progress throughout each programme. Learners attend a two-week block programme, requiring effective planning and organisation to ensure successful completion and preparation for final assessment.
This role offers flexibility whilst enabling you to make a real difference to learners developing their knowledge and skills for careers within the construction industry. Support will be provided as required to ensure you can effectively monitor and support student performance.
About You
You will be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable construction professional with experience of teaching or training within an educational or industry setting.
You will have the ability to engage learners through effective online delivery methods and create a positive learning environment that supports individual learner needs.

Required
- Teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards a Level 6 PGCE if not already held)
- Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject
- GCSE Maths and English (Level 2 or equivalent)
- Minimum three years' relevant industry experience
- Good knowledge of the construction industry
- Ability to train, assess and support students
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage learners at all levels
- Motivated, positive and enthusiastic approach
- Excellent team working skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
