Vice Chancellor

University of the Built Environment

Reading, Berkshire – hybrid working
Permanent, full time
Salary: £180,000–£220,000, with a bonus opportunity of up to 10% of basic salary

About the Role

University of the Built Environment is seeking an exceptional Vice Chancellor to lead the next phase of its development and advance its ambition to be the centre of excellence for built environment education.

The University is a specialist institution, occupying a distinctive place in higher education. Its predominantly online model makes high-quality education accessible to students in the UK and around the world. Many students earn while they learn, including through apprenticeships, applying their education directly in the workplace. Strong relationships with employers and professional bodies provide the foundation for extending the University’s reach, diversifying its provision and responding to evolving industry needs.

Responsibilities

As the University’s principal academic and executive leader, the Vice Chancellor will:

  • Lead the Executive Team and work closely with the Board of Trustees to shape and deliver a strategy for long-term success.
  • Safeguard academic standards, strengthen student outcomes and experience, and encourage innovation in teaching, learning, research and knowledge exchange.
  • Ensure strong operational performance, regulatory compliance and financial sustainability.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
