Vice President, Financial Institutions Group (FIG)

Mergers & Acquisitions Advisory

Location: London
Sector: Investment Banking | Financial Institutions

Position Overview

A leading financial institution is seeking an experienced Vice President to join its Financial Institutions Group (FIG), with a focus on Mergers & Acquisitions Advisory.
The position carries significant responsibility for the execution of domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, providing strategic and financial advice to financial institutions across a range of complex corporate transactions.
Working closely with senior investment bankers, the Vice President will assume day-to-day leadership of transaction execution, managing deal teams, coordinating key stakeholders and maintaining direct engagement with senior client representatives throughout the transaction lifecycle.
The role requires a strong foundation in FIG advisory, advanced financial and valuation expertise, and a demonstrated ability to execute complex transactions within a demanding investment banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

M&A Execution and Transaction Management

  • Lead the day-to-day execution of buy-side and sell-side M&A mandates, mergers, divestitures and other strategic advisory transactions within the financial institutions sector.
  • Manage all principal stages of transaction execution, including valuation, transaction structuring, due diligence, documentation, negotiation support and completion.
  • Take ownership of transaction workstreams, ensuring effective coordination between clients, counterparties, legal counsel, financial advisers and internal deal teams.
  • Oversee transaction timetables, deliverables and execution priorities, maintaining rigorous standards of accuracy, confidentiality and commercial judgement.
  • Identify and evaluate transaction risks, execution considerations and potential structural complexities, escalating material matters to senior deal leadership as appropriate.

Financial Analysis and Valuation

  • Direct the preparation and review of detailed financial models, valuation analyses and transaction-related financial assessments.
  • Apply appropriate valuation methodologies across financial institutions, including comparable company analysis, precedent transactions, discounted cash flow and sector-specific valuation frameworks.
  • Assess transaction economics, financial performance, balance sheet implications, regulatory capital requirements and potential shareholder value creation.
  • Review and challenge financial assumptions, valuation parameters and transaction structures to ensure analytical integrity and commercially defensible recommendations.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial presentations, valuation materials, transaction proposals and investment banking advisory documentation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
