Role Overview

MUFG is seeking a highly skilled Data Backup Subject Matter Expert at Vice President level to join their Corporate Technology team in London. This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to become the technical authority for all data backup technologies across EMEA, ensuring the integrity and security of critical information assets. You will work closely with the Head of Storage, providing expert guidance and oversight on both online and offline storage solutions, while supporting strategic goals and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in shaping the future of data backup technologies across EMEA, contributing to strategic initiatives and building trusted relationships across multiple business areas within MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of all data backup systems including associated software and hardware, ensuring robust protection against loss or corruption.
  • Monitor backup success rates meticulously, identifying areas for improvement and driving initiatives aimed at eliminating failures to maintain optimal system reliability.
  • Ensure all systems are updated and maintained according to vendor recommendations, keeping technology current and secure.
  • Adhere strictly to IT Risk and Control requirements by developing and implementing operational controls that mitigate risks associated with storage and backup technologies.
  • Lead by example in producing comprehensive documentation for all systems, regularly reviewing existing materials for accuracy and relevance to ensure compliance.
  • Manage backup operations so that the storage environment consistently meets relevant Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), delivering reliable service to internal stakeholders.
  • Guarantee that all systems meet stringent security requirements including privileged access control, maintaining high availability and prompt issue resolution.
  • Ensure data backups are captured and retained in line with corporate policies, responding reliably to user requests for restoration of historical data.
  • Document new services thoroughly and deploy them with Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) considerations at the forefront.
  • Identify areas for improvement by evaluating alternative technologies, maintaining an up-to-date roadmap for upgrades that accommodate expected growth while managing available capacity proactively.

What You Bring

  • Extensive hands-on experience managing enterprise backup solutions such as Dell EMC Networker & Rubrik.
  • Proven expertise across a wide range of technologies including storage platforms (EMC Unity/Isilon), databases, networking (Cisco SAN Switches), operating systems (Linux Redhat), load balancers (Kemp), cloud storage (EMC Elastic Cloud Storage), is highly desirable.
  • Experience prioritising workloads effectively within a team environment demonstrates your dependability and collaborative approach.
  • Excellent communication skills enable you to build strong relationships across departments underpinned by trust.
  • A results-driven mindset combined with accountability ensures you deliver reliable outcomes aligned with organisational objectives.
  • A proactive approach allows you to operate with urgency when necessary while maintaining structured judgement.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities paired with attention to detail help you perform well under pressure without compromising accuracy.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills foster an inclusive atmosphere where mentoring capability supports team efficiency.
  • Ability to manage large workloads within tight deadlines showcases your resilience in demanding environments.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills support your documentation efforts while strong numerical skills underpin analytical tasks.
