Overview of the Department/Section
Structured Finance Office for EMEA (ESFO)
MUFG offers comprehensive advisory, capital structuring, and debt arrangement services for the financing of the development or acquisition of capital-intensive assets, on a non-recourse or limited recourse basis. Our specialist teams focus on a range of sectors, including Energy, Infrastructure, Housing Finance, and Structured Corporates.
Within ESFO, the Institutional Capital & Rating Advisory team spans all sectors and aims to structure the most competitive and deliverable funding solution for our client base evaluating all available funding sources in the market. These funding sources include commercial or multilateral banks, institutional investors, private placements, or public bond finance, or a combination thereof. The team also provides credit ratings advisory services.
Main Purpose of the Role
Playing a key role in further developing, growing, and sustaining a market-leading franchise with particular focus on capital structuring and rating advisory services across the Energy, Infrastructure, Housing Finance, and Structured Corporate space.
Key Responsibilities
- To lead, and/or provide significant support, in most aspects of the execution of structuring and rating mandates and contribute to advisory mandates, including:
- Negotiation of the mandate letter
- Development of information memoranda
- Financial structuring and analysis
- Negotiations with funders
- Managing financial aspects of the due diligence process
- Manage the rating process
- Development of key documentation
- Managing the overall funding process through to financial close

Managing and developing client relationships with key sponsors and other related parties including lawyers, banks, and other financial institutions.

Managing and developing relationships with key internal stakeholders.

Assisting in devising, refining, and implementing the capital structuring and rating advisory strategy.

Develop and train others in rating methodology, processes, and issues.

Work with other MUFG teams from a capital structuring and rating perspective to enhance the MUFG offering and client services.

To play an active role in business development, in particular focused on rating advisory aspects, with a view to growing the pipeline, including:
- Proactively identifying potential opportunities
- Preparation and presentation of proposals and materials
- Ongoing ad hoc client marketing

Take an active role in the preparation of and participation in all assessments and authorisation activities including assisting in the presentation of the transaction through the various internal approval processes (e.g., Business Screening).

Propose appropriate solutions to meet client needs in conjunction, where necessary, with other specialist functions of MUFG in order to deliver a tailored solution to client needs.

Ensure that business development, structuring, and execution is market-leading, sound, and appropriate.

In general, the role could require substantial overseas travel.
Work Experience
- Experience from a Structuring/Project Finance/M&A/Fund role preferred
- Experience from a rating advisory role preferred but not essential.
- Recent experience of rating methodologies across the Big-3, DBRS, and KBRA.
- Some previous experience working in structured finance and/or capital markets preferred but not essential.

- Excellent understanding of rating methodologies and analysis. Project Finance and/or Structured Finance understanding a requirement, Corporate rating experience/ understanding preferred but not essential.
- Ability to lead on all rating aspects as part of a wider structuring mandate.
- Knowledge of credit, risk management, market, and legal aspects of project finance.
- Desirable to have a level of project finance modelling experience.
- Analytical skills including the ability to run simple financial models.
- Clear communication skills.
- Sound IT knowledge and skills.
- Quantitative / numerical skills.
- Interpersonal skills.
Education / Qualifications:
- Degree Level and/or relevant industry expertise
