VP Legal / Senior Director Legal - 12-month FTC
London | Hybrid, two to three days per week | competitive salary plus retention bonus | Immediate start required
We're working with a rapidly growing, venture-backed TechBio business operating at the intersection of life sciences, artificial intelligence and data to appoint a senior legal leader for a 12-month maternity cover contract.
This is a broad and highly visible role for an experienced in-house lawyer who can combine strategic legal leadership with a hands-on, commercially focused approach. Working closely with the Board, investors and senior leadership team, the successful candidate will advise across complex commercial contracts, data, technology, corporate governance and potential transactional activity.
The role
- Act as a trusted legal adviser to the Board, investors and senior leadership team.
- Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial contracts and strategic partnership arrangements.
- Advise on SaaS, technology licensing, intellectual property, research collaborations and data-rich commercial arrangements.
- Support sensitive data, data-sharing, data-licensing and cross-border data matters.
- Advise on corporate governance, company law, shareholder matters and complex capital structures.
- Support any fundraising, investment, sale process or other significant corporate transaction arising during the contract.
- Provide leadership and continuity for a small legal team while remaining comfortable with day-to-day legal delivery.
- Develop practical legal processes, templates and guidance to support a scaling business.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
