Operations Director/VP Operations

Canada-based with international travel

Significant Package

The List has been exclusively retained by a confidential Canada-based UHNW commercial family office to provide an Operations Director/VP Operations for immediate appointment.

ENGINEER. PROBLEM SOLVER. OPERATIONAL LEADER.

Are you an experienced engineer who gets more satisfaction from solving the problem than managing the problem?

This is a genuinely unusual senior operational opportunity for someone who can bring an engineering brain, military-style problem solving and commercial common sense to a fast-paced, highly varied environment.

This is not a conventional facilities or property role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll have responsibility for the operational integrity of a diverse international portfolio spanning:

  • Property & major residences
  • Aviation & marine assets
  • Contractors & specialist operators
  • Maintenance & capital projects
  • Budgets, procurement & risk

You'll be the person who asks, “Why isn't this working?”, works out what needs to happen, and makes sure it does.

We are particularly interested in ex-UK military engineers and others with a strong engineering/technical background who have progressed into operational leadership – ideally in a commercial setting.

Just as important is the attitude and behaviours synonymous with the UK Armed Forces – personal accountability, integrity, resilience, sound judgement, discretion, attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and effective when faced with pressure or the unexpected.

You will need to be:

  • Curious.
  • Practical.
  • Calm under pressure.
  • Commercially aware.
  • Hands-on.

And comfortable taking ownership when the answer isn't sitting neatly in a set of SOPs.

If you're an engineer who has moved beyond pure engineering and enjoys complex problems, variety, responsibility and getting things done, this could be a very interesting next move.
