VP Operations
On-site (not remote or hybrid) — South of England
Cohort is supporting a confidential search for a VP Operations for a UK-based, venture-backed autonomous technology company operating in critical national infrastructure.
We are inviting conversations with experienced operational leaders who have scaled field-based teams operating complex technology in demanding environments.
This is not a manufacturing, engineering or supply chain optimisation role. The challenge is to scale field-based operational capability quickly, safely and efficiently — across the UK and internationally.
The VP Operations will inherit an established operations organisation of more than 30 people across field operations, operations coordination, training and quality, and operations engineering. The role carries significant responsibility for operational safety, delivery, capacity and cost, with a mandate to build the systems, leadership and capability needed to support substantial growth.

Who this may suit
This opportunity is specifically suited to someone who has developed and delivered complex, safety-critical field operations at meaningful scale.
The company is deliberately open-minded about sector background. Relevant experience could come from aviation, utilities, energy, technical field services, marine operations, emergency services, or another operationally intensive, safety-critical environment.
Relevant experience is likely to include:
- Leading sizeable operational teams in complex, fast-moving environments
- Scaling or professionalising an operation through a period of significant growth
- Building strong systems around capacity, planning, training, competency and performance
- Holding meaningful responsibility for operational safety and risk
- Owning an operational cost base and improving efficiency and utilisation
- Making sound decisions under pressure when information is incomplete
- Working closely with engineering or technical teams in a technically complex environment
- Building strong leaders and organisational capability beneath you
