Contract Role – Vice President & Senior VP Java Equities– London/Hybrid – 12 months initial
We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Vice President & Senior VP Java to join our Equities Engineering team in Execution Services Platform
Role Overview:
- Job Title: Vice President & Senior VP Java Equities
- Location: London/ Hybrid (4 days onsite per week)
- Contract Type: Contract
- Duration: 12 months initial
- Rate: £900-1000/day UMB OR £759.49-843.88/day + holidays (20 days + 8 bank holidays pro rata) PAYE
Key Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience designing, building, and delivering real-time, scalable, and resilient software applications within Financial Services or similarly complex, high-throughput domains.
- Core Backend Proficiency: Deep expertise in Java and the Spring ecosystem - including Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring Data, and ORM frameworks - with a strong focus on building production-grade, enterprise-scale services.
- Frontend Development: Proficiency in modern front-end technologies including Angular, TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML/CSS, with working knowledge of jQuery and component-based UI architecture.
- Data & Persistence: Strong command of relational and analytical database technologies, e.g., Oracle / Microsoft SQL Server, with experience in data modeling, query optimization, and large-scale data management.
- Messaging & Middleware: Hands-on experience with messaging and middleware technologies such as Apache Kafka, IBM MQ, the FIX protocol, with an understanding of event-driven and asynchronous system design.
- Agile Delivery: Solid understanding of Scrum and Agile methodologies, with a proven ability to deliver in fast-paced, rapidly evolving environments with shifting priorities.
- Communication & Leadership: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong organizational skills to coordinate, influence, and drive cross-team initiatives.
- Problem Solving & Innovation: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex, ambiguous problems and devise pragmatic, innovative solutions — balancing technical rigor with delivery speed.
- AI-Augmented Development: Familiarity with one or more AI coding and productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code), with a willingness to leverage AI-assisted workflows to accelerate development and improve code quality.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience required, advanced degree preferred.
- (Note: We value T-shaped engineers — deep expertise in one discipline (backend or frontend) with broad familiarity across the stack is preferred over equal but shallow coverage of both)
