About The Role
The Daily Mail is looking for a sharp, fast-thinking freelance Video Journalist to help drive high-impact content seen by millions worldwide.
You'll be at the heart of our breaking news video desk, turning major developing stories into compelling, must-watch edits at pace. From international headlines to ambitious original series, you'll help shape how some of the biggest stories of the day are told in video.

- Edit and publish short-form video for Daily Mail's global audience
- Turn raw footage from original reporting, wires, UGC and archive into sharp, compelling narratives
- Develop structured, in-depth edits around major news events
- Add graphics, captions, subtitles and branding to elevate storytelling
- Shoot video to a professional standard when required, using DSLR cameras including Sony A7 series cameras
- Reformat 16x9 into 9x16 and optimise for web and mobile audiences
- Pitch and package video ideas around breaking news, politics, royals, showbiz and features
- Work closely with reporters, producers and editors across the newsroom
- Ensure all content meets legal, copyright and compliance standards
Person Specification
- Experience editing in a newsroom, digital publisher or similarly fast-paced environment
- Strong Premiere Pro skills
- Proven ability to shoot and capture high-quality video using DSLR cameras
- Experience working with Sony A7 cameras is highly desirable
- Excellent editorial judgment and a sharp instinct for what makes stories resonate
- The ability to work quickly and calmly under pressure
- Understanding of audience engagement, SEO and digital storytelling
- Strong communication skills and meticulous attention to detail
Contract Details
Freelance
Based in our newsroom at 9 Derry Street, Kensington (9DS)
Candidates must be able to work a rota that includes both day and night shifts
This is an office-based role and is not suitable for remote-only working
