Who we’re looking for
We're looking for someone who is passionate about both great teaching and great filmmaking.
Over the last few years, we've built one of the largest libraries of authentic classroom footage. Now we're looking to take it even further. Our ambition is to become the world's leading source of model videos that show teachers exactly what excellent classroom practice looks like.
You'll work alongside our Video Production Lead to capture outstanding teaching in schools, transform hours of classroom footage into compelling professional learning resources, and help shape the future of how teachers develop.
This is a rare role that sits between education and filmmaking. You might be an experienced teacher or school leader who has developed excellent production skills. Or you might come from a filmmaking background with significant experience working in education. Either way, you'll understand both what makes teaching effective and how to communicate it brilliantly on screen.
We're looking for someone who:
- Understands what excellent classroom teaching looks like and is excited by helping other teachers improve
- Is confident filming in real classroom environments and producing high-quality video and audio
- Enjoys the craft of editing, finding the moments that matter and telling clear visual stories
- Is curious, organised and happy managing projects from filming through to final delivery
- Enjoys collaborating, giving and receiving feedback, and continually improving their work

At Steplab, we’re on a mission to transform the lives of young people by giving teachers, coaches and school leaders simple, effective and powerful tools to systematically improve professional development (PD). We use the best available research on teacher education to create content, build tools and share knowledge that helps schools implement PD that really works.

Your responsibilities
- Film exceptional teaching in schools, capturing authentic classroom practice using high-quality video and audio
- Edit classroom footage into engaging professional development resources, from full lesson films to short model videos that demonstrate specific teaching techniques
- Identify and showcase the moments that best exemplify excellent classroom practice, helping teachers understand not just what to do, but how to do it
- Own the post-production process, organising footage and editing high-quality films and model videos ready for publication on the Steplab platform
- Work closely with teachers, school leaders and colleagues to plan filming, coordinate projects and ensure every production runs smoothly
- Collaborate with our education and content teams to ensure every video aligns with our professional development framework and supports meaningful teacher learning
- Continually refine our approach to filming, editing and storytelling, helping us build the world's leading library of classroom model videos
- Contribute to wider video projects that support Steplab's products, marketing and partnerships

Skills and experience
Essential
- Experience as a teacher, school leader or in teacher professional development, with a strong understanding of what excellent classroom teaching looks like
- A genuine interest in teacher learning and development, informed by educational research and a curiosity about how teachers improve their practice
- Experience producing and editing high-quality video using professional editing software (such as DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro)
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work collaboratively with teachers, school leaders and colleagues
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise effectively and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- A willingness to travel to schools across the UK to capture classroom practice
Highly desirable
- Experience filming in live classroom environments, using professional video and audio equipment
- Experience using Steplab or having delivered professional development, instructional coaching or supported teachers to improve their practice
- Familiarity with collaborative video review or post-production workflows (such as Frame.io)

Steplab is currently a team of over thirty highly motivated and dedicated individuals across the UK but also in Australia and the USA.
Whilst most of your work can be conducted remotely, there will be some travel required to engage in monthly team meetings (London) and attend events (National). There may also be opportunities for international travel.

FAQs
What’s the remote working policy?
We have an office in central London, in Highbury and Islington. We tend to come in around once per month, but we’re really flexible if you want to come in more than that. If you want to come in 5 days a week, that’s fine too. You’ll just get to meet the whole team more regularly!
Will I get to spend any time in schools?
We believe that the entire Steplab team, whether you work in technology, support or teacher training, should get to experience the good Steplab does, day in day out, hands-on. That’s why we make sure that the entire team gets to spend some time in schools, seeing how Steplab works. We believe this is how we make a product that really works.
Do you have an office dog?
Of course! Mosi lives with our co-founder, Ben, and she often comes to the office with him. Myrtle lives with Abbie and occasionally gatecrashes!
