VIDEO SYSTEMS DESIGNER
UXBRIDGE, LONDON
£50,000 - £53,000
POSITION OVERVIEW
Encore’s UK Technical Delivery Department designs, plans, documents, and supports event technology systems across Audio, Lighting, Rigging, and Video for temporary events and live production. The Systems Designer will evaluate project needs and create designs that are safe and functional while ensuring adherence to the technical standards and commercial constraints in place. The Systems Designer will be predominantly office based however will be required to conduct site visits to support operational demand.
The Systems Designer will be specialised in one of the following disciplines and will work as one of a group of four Systems Designers, each aligned to a technical department. The role will be line managed by the Technical Manager (HoD) for the department and will support increased standards of systems design, documentation, planning, and commercial kit allocation across Encore.
Audio Systems
Design event technology systems within the relevant specialism that are safe, effective, commercially appropriate, and aligned to Encore technical standards.
Lighting Systems
Design event technology systems within the relevant specialism that are safe, effective, commercially appropriate, and aligned to Encore technical standards.
Rigging Systems
Design event technology systems within the relevant specialism that are safe, effective, commercially appropriate, and aligned to Encore technical standards.
Video Systems

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Systems Design
- Evaluate temporary event and live production requirements, including collaborating with Project Managers, sales and venue staff, and create recommended solutions based on business need and using Encore’s guidelines for design practice.
- Create detailed drawings, schematics, renderings, access plans, bills of materials and scopes of work using CAD, Vectorworks, ConnectCAD and other technical design platforms.
- Support Project Managers, Technical Managers and operational teams by providing consultative technical expertise, iterating the design to match budget needs, available inventory and commercial kit allocation.
- Maintain high standards of systems design, documentation, planning and commercial kit allocation within the department and across the wider Systems Designer group.
- Support Labour Resource Managers by identifying the correct skills and competencies required to deliver and operate the systems designed.

Design Standards
- Using an expert knowledge of existing technical practice, relevant national and international standards, and temporary event delivery requirements, contribute to the continuous improvement of Encore technical design standards, proposals, document templates, training materials, maintenance plans and other processes and tools.
- Maintain and grow a knowledge of relevant products and advocate for ways to use them in design guidelines developing an adaptive and forward-thinking design philosophy.
- Work with procurement to identify, select, and prioritize vendors and equipment based on overall product support, availability and performance.
- Perform post-event analysis to understand how well the original design concept held up against the objectives and recommend improvements for future designs.
- Undertake planned advanced industry training with manufacturers of technology stack equipment within their specialism.
Operational Support
- Partner with project management and onsite delivery teams to address operational challenges, suggesting alterations to the design where necessary to complete the project.
- Maintain real-world technician skills through planned onsite time, ensuring the role remains connected to current event delivery practice and operational standards.
- Act as the liaison to third party vendors, manufacturers and internal departments supporting as required to expedite technical information, documentation and operational readiness.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- In depth knowledge and demonstratable experience in related field
- Extensive on-site experience within the temporary live events events sector and associated technologies involved in the relevant specialism
- Highly proficient working knowledge of Vectorworks and ConnectCAD
- 2+ years of CAD software experience is preferred
- Client relationship experience
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 & office tools
- Will be required to work at Encore offices and other sites
- Strong systems thinking skills, excellent written/oral communication and organizational skills, including team collaboration skills
- Works well under pressure and ability to multi task, manage own workload and asset delivery expectations
- Proficient problem solving and troubleshooting skills
For Audio Systems
- Knowledge of end-to-end audio systems, RF, networking, control systems, cabling requirements and temporary event delivery standards.
For Lighting Systems
- Knowledge of end-to-end lighting systems, control, networking, power distribution, rigging interface requirements and temporary event delivery standards.
For Rigging Systems
- Familiarity with end-to-end rigging equipment, operations and relevant temporary event rigging standards.
For Video Systems
- Knowledge of end-to-end video systems, all modern display technologies, media servers, projection design, signal distribution, networking, control systems and temporary event delivery standards.
