The Opportunity
Reporting to the Enterprise Product Owner in the Virtual Devices team, the Platform Specialist will provide technical leadership and ensure our solutions align with long-term architectural principles and business objectives. This role acts as the technical lead for our Virtual Devices platform, providing leadership and direction to engineers responsible for delivering and operating our enterprise virtual desktop services.
Our Virtual Devices Product Area is responsible for a diverse portfolio of enterprise virtual desktop and remote access technologies, including Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), Windows 365, Secure Browser and application virtualisation solutions. We are responsible for ensuring these platforms remain secure, reliable, scalable and future-ready.
You'll collaborate closely with colleagues across engineering, architecture, security, service management and product teams to solve complex technical challenges, reduce technical risk and drive continual improvement.
You'll join us on a salary starting from £50,000 per annum (depending on experience), with the potential for an annual bonus. This is a hybrid working role that balances time at home and on site to support collaboration and delivery. There will therefore be occasional travel to our offices within the UK.

Who You Are
To be successful in this role, you'll have strong experience designing, implementing and supporting enterprise virtual desktop services at scale.
You'll have a passion for technology, a strong engineering background and experience providing technical leadership within complex enterprise environments.
You will bring expertise and experience across the following areas:
- Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Windows 365 design, deployment and operational support
- Azure cloud infrastructure supporting enterprise end user computing services
- Configuration and management of host pools, golden images, application delivery and user access controls
- User profile and storage technologies including FSLogix and NetApp
- Monitoring and operational tooling such as Azure Insights and Zabbix
- Hybrid cloud environments spanning Azure, AWS and traditional on-premises infrastructure
- Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring engineers
- Strong communication skills, able to explain complex issues to non-technical audiences
- Experience working collaboratively with the wider Digital Workplace team and business colleagues to create a great place to work
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and experience handling high-severity incidents
- Experience balancing operational stability with the delivery of new capabilities

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Clearance (SC), which will ordinarily require you to have British residency for the last five years.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the Virtual Devices platform, providing technical direction across Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365 and related cloud services.
- Act as a technical authority for enterprise virtual desktop and application delivery technologies.
- Drive technical strategy, decision-making and engineering standards to deliver secure, scalable and reliable solutions.
- Oversee the Azure infrastructure and Azure Virtual Desktop environments supporting Virtual Devices services.
- Provide technical leadership across profile, storage and automation technologies, including FSLogix, NetApp, Terraform, GitHub and GitHub Actions.
- Lead deployment pipelines and engineering tooling, ensuring secure, automated and auditable delivery processes.
- Collaborate with product, architecture, security and operations teams to maintain resilient, high-performing platforms and manage technical risks.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of virtual desktop services, working with business stakeholders and partners to drive continuous improvement and service evolution.
