About The Role

This role is vital to maintaining reliable international roaming services for EE customers and inbound roamers. It provides technical leadership and operational expertise to protect customer experience, service availability, revenue and the successful introduction of new roaming capabilities and technologies.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design, build and govern VMware-based virtualisation platforms supporting mobile network and telco cloud services.
  • Produce/Review High Level Designs (HLDs), Low Level Designs (LLDs), Bills of Materials (BoMs) and implementation documentation.
  • Define compute, storage and networking architectures ensuring scalability, resilience and operational supportability.
  • Design VMware NSX-T network virtualisation solutions including T0/T1 gateways, segments, routing and network integration.
  • Ensure all hardware and software components comply with VMware Compatibility Guide (HCL) requirements.
  • Lead capacity planning activities including server sizing, storage requirements, network throughput and platform resilience.
  • Design and assure high availability, disaster recovery and failover capabilities across the platform.
  • Support onboarding of new workloads and infrastructure into the virtualisation estate.
  • Collaborate with engineering, security, operations and application teams to ensure successful delivery of infrastructure solutions.
  • Support lifecycle management activities including software upgrades, hardware refreshes and platform optimisation.
  • Provide technical leadership during implementation, acceptance testing and operational handover.
  • Develop standards, patterns and best practices for virtual infrastructure deployments.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, design artefacts and operational procedures.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • 5+ years designing and delivering enterprise virtualised infrastructure solutions.
  • Experience designing VMware platforms in large-scale service provider, data centre or enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrable experience producing HLDs, LLDs and technical architecture documentation.
  • Experience with enterprise networking and storage architectures.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure lifecycle management and upgrade programmes
  • Expert knowledge of VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter and VMware infrastructure technologies.
  • Strong understanding of VMware NSX-T and software-defined networking concepts.

Deep knowledge of data centre networking including:

  • TCP/IP
  • VLANs
  • Routing and Switching
  • LACP
  • Network Segmentation

Experience with:

  • Dell EMC, Cisco UCS and enterprise server technologies.

Strong understanding of storage technologies including:

  • vSAN
  • NAS
  • SAN
  • Fibre Channel
  • iSCSI

Experience performing infrastructure capacity modelling and workload sizing.

  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation and scripting using PowerCLI and Python.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience within telecommunications or mobile network environments.
  • Experience with VMware Telco Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies and Kubernetes platforms.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and automation frameworks.
