The Museums, Art Gallery and Heritage Service

The Museums, Art Gallery and Heritage Service sits within Southampton City Council’s Culture and Tourism Division and plays a vital role in sharing, celebrating and caring for Southampton’s rich art, history and heritage. Through Southampton City Art Gallery, SeaCity Museum, Tudor House & Garden and the city’s collections, we create opportunities for people to explore stories, ideas and experiences that connect communities, visitors and future generations.

We are a public-facing, people-centred service that brings together collections, exhibitions, learning, engagement, volunteering, commercial activity and venue operations. Our teams work collaboratively to provide welcoming, inclusive, safe and inspiring experiences for residents, schools, families, partners, communities and visitors to the city.

Joining the service means being part of a creative, supportive and ambitious team that is committed to excellent visitor experience, meaningful community connection and responsible care of the city’s heritage assets.

Visitor Experience Assistant (Venues)

The Role

As Visitor Experience Assistant (Venues), you will be one of the first faces visitors meet when they come to our museums and gallery. You will provide a warm, helpful and efficient welcome, support visitors through our venues and help create positive first impressions for people of all ages and backgrounds.

You will support daily front of house operations, answer enquiries, provide information about exhibitions, collections, services and places of interest, assist with online ticketing and e-resources, take payments, support retail, help maintain venue presentation, collect visitor information and support venue hire, exhibitions, learning and events activity.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
