The Brief
The Bayeux Tapestry Exhibition at the British Museum is one of the most talked-about cultural moments in London, and the Visitor Experience and Welcome Team is what makes it run smoothly for every visitor who walks through the door. This is a casual role until July 2027. No two weeks will look quite the same, but the constant is a fast-paced, high-profile environment where your ability to read a room and make a stranger feel welcome matters more than anything else on paper.
Your New Role
- Welcome visitors from all over the world and help them get their bearings
- Guide people towards special exhibitions, events and Museum Membership
- Keep queues moving and crowds managed, especially at peak times
- Carry out security and health and safety checks, and file the reports that follow
- Support emergency evacuation procedures when needed
- Resolve visitor issues on the spot, escalating where necessary
- Work alongside Learning, Security and Café teams to keep the day running
- Help open and close the Museum

Your Talents
- You’ve worked in a tourist venue or customer-facing role before, and you know that a good welcome sets the tone for everything that follows.
- You’re comfortable in a fast-paced environment, calm under pressure, and flexible enough to work varied shifts across weekdays, weekends and evenings.
- A physical DBS certificate issued within the last five years is essential.
- A second language or previous ticketing and box office experience would be an advantage.
