VMware Infrastructure Engineer
📍 Hybrid | Leeds
📅 6-Month Contract
💰 £400 per day
We're supporting a leading banking client in the search for an experienced VMware Infrastructure Engineer to join their Data Centre Engineering team. This role will focus on validating and testing enterprise infrastructure solutions within a controlled pre-production environment, ensuring changes are fully tested before deployment into live production.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional with deep VMware expertise, strong storage knowledge, and a passion for delivering robust, resilient enterprise platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, test and validate infrastructure solutions within a dedicated lab and pre-production environment.
- Build and configure virtual machines and manage enterprise VMware environments.
- Administer and support VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter platforms.
- Configure and troubleshoot VMware technologies including vMotion, DRS, High Availability (HA) and resource management.
- Perform infrastructure validation prior to production deployment, ensuring stability and compliance with technical standards.
- Manage and troubleshoot enterprise Storage and SAN environments, including:
- Storage provisioning and access control
- Multipathing configuration
- Storage connectivity validation
- Performance monitoring and optimisation
- Support server and infrastructure change testing across compute, storage and virtualisation platforms.
- Produce clear technical documentation, test results and implementation recommendations.
- Work collaboratively with Infrastructure, Data Centre and Engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Investigate and resolve complex infrastructure issues across virtualisation, storage and server technologies.

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience as a VMware Infrastructure Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer or Data Centre Engineer within large enterprise environments.
- Extensive hands-on experience with:
- VMware vSphere
- ESXi
- vCenter
- vMotion
- Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS)
- High Availability (HA)
- Resource and performance management
- Strong knowledge of enterprise Storage & SAN technologies, including:
- SMB / NFS
- Multipathing
- Storage performance troubleshooting
- Storage connectivity validation
- Experience with server hardware management platforms such as:
- Dell iDRAC
- HPE iLO
- Lenovo XClarity
- Strong Windows Server administration experience (2016, 2019 and 2022).
- Good networking fundamentals with the ability to diagnose infrastructure connectivity issues.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within technical teams.

Desirable
- Experience working within banking, financial services or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
- Previous experience supporting lab, testing or pre-production infrastructure environments.
- Familiarity with enterprise change and release management processes.
- Knowledge of infrastructure automation or scripting (PowerShell or VMware PowerCLI) would be advantageous.
