VOD Image Manager

Description

The VOD Image team sits within Digital Curation and creates and optimizes artwork for streaming platforms, specifically for the U streaming service and apps like Amazon Fire, Apple TV, and Freely. They ensure high-quality, engaging visuals for content discovery across digital, focusing on the U brand identity and the end goal of optimizing imagery to increase on-demand viewing.

Purpose of the Role

We’re seeking a VOD Image Manager to oversee the creation and delivery of high-quality visual assets across a portfolio of on-demand platforms for UKTV. Working with the Head of Digital Curation and the wider Digital team they are responsible for devising and executing the digital imagery strategy.

You’ll manage a team of VOD image designers while working closely with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Success in this role depends on your ability to communicate effectively, adapt quickly to shifting business priorities, and ensure alignment across teams—particularly with curation and editorial functions – as well as being technically proficient and familiar with offerings for U, Pay TV VoD platforms and FAST.

This role requires a strong leader who can balance creative excellence with operational delivery at scale.

What We Would Like You to Bring to the Role

  • Key Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Personal Qualities:
    • Proven experience in a leadership role within a creative, broadcast, or digital production environment.
    • Strong management capability, with a track record of leading, motivating, and developing teams in high-pressure environments.
    • Demonstrable experience managing editorial relationships across VOD third-party platforms and TV partners.
    • Excellent communication skills, with confidence in both internal collaboration and external-facing interactions.
    • Experience working closely with operations, product, creative, and communications/press functions.
    • Experience supporting or working alongside curation or editorial leadership in a VOD or digital content environment.
    • Ability to remain flexible and responsive in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities.
    • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.
    • Proven ability to deliver high volumes of creative output at scale.
    • Experience of Agile working, collaboratively and cross-functionally with other teams is advantageous.

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and other image design/editing tools (e.g., Illustrator, InDesign).
    • Strong understanding of digital image specifications, formats, and platform requirements.
    • Disciplined/diligent with image source and copyright details.
    • Experience with digital asset management systems and workflow tools.
    • Familiarity with automation, templating, and batch-processing techniques is highly desirable.

What You Will Get to Work On

  • Key Outputs and Responsibilities of the Role:
    • Lead, manage, and develop a team of VOD image designers, setting clear direction and maintaining high performance standards.
    • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of high-volume VOD imagery across multiple platforms, ensuring quality, consistency, and timeliness.
    • Act as a central point of contact for stakeholders across operations, product, creative, communications/press picture desk, and external partners.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment on priorities, workflows, and delivery expectations.
    • Work closely with and support the Head of Digital Curation, ensuring imagery aligns with curation strategy, content priorities, and audience engagement goals.
    • Partner with curation and editorial teams to ensure imagery supports content discoverability and placement.
    • Manage competing priorities and rapidly changing business needs, reallocating resources and adjusting plans as required.
    • Develop and deliver a clear VOD imagery strategy, with the flexibility to introduce tactical changes in response to performance or shifting priorities.
    • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, scalability, and consistency across workflows.
    • Ensure all assets meet platform specifications, brand standards, and compliance requirements.
    • Work closely with the Curation Team to plan and execute multi-variant tests involving imagery to improve presentation and personalization of content for users across the U estate.
    • Play an active role in the Digital Products team’s testing and implementation of systems relating to imagery.
