What you’ll do
We recognise that the only way we can deliver on our promises is with talented people and this is why our people form a crucial part of the wider Field Strategy.
You will play an integral part of the Vodafone Field Engineering team, performing installation and maintenance activities in support of the fixed and mobile networks as well as Vodafone business solutions.
Adherence to quality and H&S standards as well as achieving agreed performance targets is essential to this role.
Rooftop based working including the use of ladders up to 3 metres is essential and the role holder will be expected to undertake regular health assessments to ensure that all physical aspects of the role may be carried out safely.

The Field Engineering role is a physical one, with the need for manual lifting, climbing stairs, walking and being on your feet for large parts of the day, working in both inside and outside environments.
The candidate will be expected to participate in a 24/7 callout rota and / or shift pattern as and when required in alignment with the working hours of the Operating Unit you are assigned to.
In conjunction with the FSM, you are responsible for the advice, guidance and adherence of H&S and Quality policies within the team.
The role will also involve supporting and developing first line Field Services colleagues via remote advice, on-the-job, ad hoc or formal training.
Main responsibilities:
- Install, commission and maintain the Vodafone network, products and services to agreed Vodafone standards and service levels without compromising safe working practices
- Follow our VodafoneThree HSE Absolute Rules, without exception
- Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional and timely manner
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and challenge existing processes and procedures in order to deliver operational excellence for our customers
- Take a lead role in new product build ensuring knowledge gained and lessons learned are cascaded to colleagues
- Locate and fix complex faults at Network and customer sites
- Perform quality audits at all engineering levels
- Coach and mentor colleagues to ensure technical standards are met and maintained
- Escalation point for technical issues within the team
- Assist in providing technical approval/rejection for non-standard customer solution proposals
- Produce local Work Instructions /development of training plans
- Deputise for the FSM as required.
- Take a key role in Technical Forums with other areas of Vodafone
- Maintain, assess and update skillsets on WFMS
- Ensure that colleagues within the team are kept up-to-date with evolving technology
Who you are
- Formal telecoms/electronic qualification or equivalent experience gained through previous roles.
- Advanced knowledge and experience of supporting complex fault diagnosis and rectification as well as Provisioning activities on relevant telecoms technologies:
- Multi-vendor CPE including Cisco, Juniper and ADVA
- Core transmission technologies including DWDM and Ethernet
- Mobile networking technologies 3G/4G/5G and associated equipment
- Microwave Radio
- Switch and Field DC power systems
- Fibre and copper cabling and termination
- Experience of working with a range of telecoms test equipment
- Knowledge of company ISO accreditations
- Experience developing / delivering formal training courses
- Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) with an ability to present technical information in an engaging and informative manner
- Advanced evaluation, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to encourage and support with the growth of talent from within the local team
- Ability to work both in a team and on your own efficiently and effectively
- Ability to work in a focused manner under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to manage own workload to best meet the demands of the business
- Adaptability and the ability to learn new skills quickly
- PC skills (IT Literacy)
- Valid / full UK / EU driving license (Category B)
- Excellent customer-facing skills
- Ability to achieve and maintain SC clearance status
