Job Description

Single Homeless Project has a new opportunity for a Void Officer to join our team based in Kings Cross, London. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis and, in return, receive a competitive salary starting at £29,822.41 and rising incrementally to £32,034.46 per annum.

We’re London’s leading homelessness charity - and we get things done.

In a city where hundreds are forced into homelessness every day, our work has never been more needed or more challenging. And we’re not shying away. We’re rolling up our sleeves to make change and helping over 10,000 Londoners every year. We prevent homelessness, provide safe places to live and give people the opportunity to rebuild their lives and transform their futures. And we never give up.

We’re here for Londoners wherever they are on their journey. We start with trust, building relationships that help people feel safe, supported, and ready to move forward. Every day, we put people first in everything we do, challenging injustice and barriers that keep people from the safety, stability and opportunity they deserve. We stand alongside people as they rebuild and shape a future that feels their own.

Joining Single Homeless Project means joining a team that’s bold, compassionate and determined to do better for the people we support and for each other. You’ll work alongside colleagues with lived experience, in a space that’s trans-inclusive, disability-friendly, and actively striving to be anti-oppressive and equitable.

We’re not perfect, but we’re real. We listen. We learn. And we push forward, together. Because this isn’t just a job. It’s a chance to lead with empathy, spark change, and help build a London where no one is left behind.

About The Void Officer Role

An empty property is more than a void on a spreadsheet — it is a home someone could be waiting to move into. As our Void Officer, you’ll play a crucial role in getting Single Homeless Project's (SHP) accommodation safe, welcoming and ready for people experiencing homelessness to begin their next chapter.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You’ll take ownership of the void journey from inspection through to ready-to-let, bringing together service teams, Registered Providers, contractors and suppliers to make sure the right work happens at the right time. From coordinating repairs, decoration and safety checks to chasing overdue works and tackling quality issues, you’ll be the person keeping things moving and making sure avoidable delays don’t stand between someone and their new home.

This is a role for someone who enjoys making things happen. You’ll balance pace, quality and value for money, spot problems before they become bigger ones and build the relationships needed to get them resolved. Alongside managing individual voids, you’ll keep accurate records, track performance and help identify where we can improve the way our property and maintenance services work.

You’ll join a collaborative Housing Services team where your judgement, organisation and ideas will be valued. At SHP, you’ll also have access to learning and development opportunities that can help you deepen your property and housing knowledge and build your career across the organisation.

About You As Our Void Officer

  • You have experience coordinating repairs, maintenance, voids or property-related works and know how to keep several moving parts on track at once.
  • You’re a natural problem-solver who notices what needs to happen next, follows things through and won’t let an unanswered email or overdue job become an unnecessary delay.
  • You can build credible relationships with contractors, landlords, Registered Providers and colleagues, setting clear expectations and confidently challenging when standards or timescales are slipping.
  • You understand that good void management means balancing speed with safety, quality and cost — and that behind every turnaround target is someone waiting for a home.
  • You’re organised and comfortable working with systems and data, keeping accurate records and using information to monitor progress, spot issues and help improve the service.
