About the Role

At Port Lympne Hotel and Reserve, located near Hythe in Kent, we offer a voluntary internship placement on the Gorilla and Orangutan Section. We are seeking a passionate, hardworking individual to join our small team of dedicated Great Ape Keepers. Port Lympne collaborates with The Aspinall Foundation, a charity dedicated to the conservation of rare and endangered animals through breeding and reintroduction programs.

What You'll Do

  • Learn husbandry techniques
  • Engage in enrichment building
  • Understand ape nutrition
  • Develop skills in educational public speaking

This placement provides a comprehensive opportunity to shadow our keepers and gain practical experience in animal husbandry. It aims to enhance your future employability in a career within the zoo industry.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Good level of fitness
  • Comfortable with heavy lifting and working at heights
  • Already studying or have recently completed an animal-related course
  • Ability to financially support yourself for the duration of the internship
