Accurate record-keeping and participation in supervision help us maintain strong governance and continuously improve our platform. Your insights and experiences contribute to shaping service development, ensuring Advice For Life remains responsive, inclusive, and effective.
Ultimately, your involvement enables Global Social Innovators CIC to expand its impact by empowering communities, supporting vulnerable individuals, and advancing our mission to create sustainable, people-led solutions to social challenges.
What are we looking for?
Warm, non-judgmental, and culturally aware, with excellent listening, clear communication, and the ability to build rapport fast. Calm in emotionally charged situations and confident in holding professional boundaries. Reliable and well-organized, with strong IT skills. Open to learning and feedback. Experience in advice, support, HR, coaching, or social care; lived experience welcomed.

Essential
We're looking for volunteers who have:
- Strong listening and communication skills with the ability to build rapport quickly.
- Empathy and a non-judgmental approach to supporting people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in emotionally challenging situations.
- Good IT skills and confidence using online platforms, databases, and communication tools.
- Commitment to confidentiality and understanding of professional boundaries.
- Reliable, organized approach with the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Willingness to undertake training and engage in regular supervision.
- Experience in advice work, counseling, social work, HR, coaching, or related support roles.
- Knowledge of employment rights, welfare benefits, housing, or related areas.
- Understanding of safeguarding principles and information governance.
- Experience working with people experiencing crisis or vulnerability.
- Lived experience of navigating complex life challenges (where you feel comfortable sharing this).

What will you be doing?
Advice For Life is a rapid-response support service run by Global Social Innovators CIC, helping people navigate personal, financial, and workplace challenges. We’re recruiting warm, empathetic Volunteer Advisers to provide practical guidance to individuals facing difficult moments in their lives.

As a Volunteer Adviser, you’ll offer confidential support via phone, email, video, and secure messaging. You’ll listen actively, help clients understand their options, and guide them towards safe, constructive next steps. Issues may include employment rights, financial stress, housing concerns, relationship breakdowns, wellbeing challenges, and more.
You’ll receive full training, ongoing supervision, and access to a supportive peer community. This role is ideal for people exploring careers in advice work, HR, coaching, social care, or wellbeing, as well as experienced professionals who want to give back. Lived experience is welcomed.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Providing empathetic, confidential advice and support.
- Helping clients explore options and make informed decisions.
- Signposting to specialist services when needed.
- Maintaining accurate records in line with GDPR.
- Participating in supervision and contributing to service development.
- Collaborating with fellow volunteers and staff to deliver high-quality support.
This is a flexible, remote role that fits around your life. Volunteers commit to a minimum of 6 hours per week for at least 6 months. Sessions can be scheduled around your availability, Monday–Saturday.
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, especially those with lived experience of the issues we support, individuals from underrepresented communities, and people transitioning into advice or support-based careers.
