We’d love to tell you about our Companion Volunteer role taking place at the Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham. You don’t need a medical background or all the answers – just a kind heart, a listening ear and a little time to give. Be there when it matters.
Availability: 3 hours per week, weekdays
Location: Heartlands Hospital, Bordesley Green, Birmingham B9 5SS
Criteria: Minimum 18 years or older. A criminal records check is required for this opportunity. Marie Curie will cover the cost for you.

What you’ll do:
- Visit different patients at the Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham
- Each visit may be with a different person, offering variety and new conversations
- Share a cup of tea, a chat, or simply quiet companionship
- Listen to stories, memories, or just talk about the everyday
You’d be a great fit if you’re:
- Caring and compassionate nature
- Patience and good listening skills
- Comfortable with sensitive topics, such as death, dying and bereavement
- Able to commit to 3 hours a week
- Comfortable with email and completing a brief visit report
- Respectful of boundaries and confidentiality
