Become a Companion Volunteer – Offer Presence in Someone’s Last Days
As a Companion Volunteer, you’ll provide one thing that matters most: your presence.
Your time can bring warmth, comfort, or connection to someone facing the end of life. Whether through shared stories, life discussions, music, or simply sitting beside someone, just being there can be everything.
About the Role
As a Companion Volunteer for Marie Curie, you’ll:
- Offer emotional support and meaningful conversation
- Help individuals express their deepest values and fears
- Share informative resources and practical assistance
- Support families and carers before, during, and after bereavement
You’ll receive full training and ongoing support from the Marie Curie team and join a community that values compassion as much as you do. We never ask volunteers to do anything they’re uncomfortable with.

Where You’ll Make a Difference
We’re seeking Companion Volunteers to support NHS patients at The Royal Alexander Hospital, Corsebar Rd, Paisley PA2 9PN.
Your commitment can vary based on your availability:
- Availability: Up to 3 hours per week (weekdays)
- Visits: Flexible scheduling to suit your timeline
Your Responsibilities
- Regularly visit patients at the hospital, offering varied companionship
- Provide active listening, emotional support, or quiet presence
- Stay calm, reassuring, and patient during difficult moments
