This is a Lottery-funded role and, although the project is already established, it’s still at an exciting stage where there’s plenty of opportunity to shape how it grows. We already have volunteers and clients benefiting from the service, but we know there are many more people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who could benefit from having someone alongside them.
About the Role
As Volunteer Coordinator, your main focus will be growing the service. You’ll work closely with our Hearing Help team and hearing aid maintenance volunteers to identify people who may benefit from befriending, while also recruiting, training and supporting volunteers who want to make a genuine difference in someone’s life.
This isn’t just about matching people together. It’s about building relationships, encouraging community involvement and helping people regain confidence after becoming isolated through hearing loss. Whether that’s sharing a cup of tea, going for a walk, attending a local group or simply having someone to chat to, these friendships can have a lasting impact.

You’ll also work alongside our BSL Befriending Coordinator. While you won’t be responsible for coordinating the BSL befriending service itself, you’ll help provide cover when they’re not working by responding to enquiries from volunteers and clients, ensuring people continue to receive a friendly and responsive service.
Requirements
We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with people, is well organised and is motivated by seeing projects grow. You’ll be someone who can build relationships with volunteers, community organisations and partner agencies, while always keeping the people we support at the heart of what you do.

British Sign Language skills would be an advantage, although they’re not essential. We have many deaf colleagues and BSL users across the organisation, so we’d expect the successful candidate to be keen to learn and become part of our inclusive workplace.
