Volunteer Coordinator
We’re looking for a reliable Volunteer Coordinator to help our small education charity run smoothly. You’ll coordinate volunteers and programmes, keep activities on track, improve simple systems and gradually take ownership of day-to-day coordination.
What difference will you make?
Your contribution will help Coempowered become a more organised and sustainable charity.
As a small, growing organisation, much of our coordination currently depends on a few people. By helping volunteers stay connected, following up on actions and keeping programmes and projects on track, you will free our educational team to focus more of their time on teaching, developing programmes and supporting participants.
Good coordination will also help us make better use of our volunteers’ skills, identify problems earlier and build reliable ways of working as we grow.
Ultimately, your work will strengthen our capacity to provide sustained, high-quality educational opportunities for children, young people and young adults, particularly those from communities where access to this kind of education can be limited.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who is reliable, organised and comfortable coordinating people and tasks. You do not need to have worked in a charity before, but some experience of project coordination, volunteer management, administration, operations or a similar role would be useful.
The most important qualities are
- Reliability and follow-through – able to keep track of commitments, follow up on actions and communicate early when something is delayed.
- Organisation – comfortable managing several activities, deadlines and priorities without losing sight of details.
- Clear communication – able to communicate professionally and respectfully with volunteers from different backgrounds.
- Initiative and judgement – able to solve straightforward problems independently and recognise when something needs to be discussed or escalated.
- Collaborative working – comfortable working closely with the Executive Lead and volunteers across different areas.
- Digital confidence – comfortable using shared documents, spreadsheets, calendars and online communication tools.
- Commitment to confidentiality and safeguarding – willing to follow our policies carefully when working with organisational or personal information.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience with project management, volunteer coordination, education, charities or community organisations would be an advantage, but we are open to candidates with transferable experience.
We are particularly interested in someone who wants to take increasing ownership over time. The role will begin with clearly defined responsibilities, with opportunities to develop as you become familiar with the organisation.
Consistency matters to us. We are looking for someone who can maintain regular communication, attend agreed meetings, plan ahead and contribute reliably over a sustained period.

What will you be doing?
We are looking for a reliable and organised Volunteer Coordinator to help Coempowered run its programmes and volunteer activities smoothly as we grow.
Coempowered is a small education charity focused on philosophical inquiry, critical thinking and dialogue. We work mainly with children, young people and young adults, including Persian-speaking communities including young women from Afghanistan.
You will work closely with the Executive Lead and gradually take responsibility for day-to-day coordination across the organisation. This is a practical role for someone who enjoys keeping people, tasks and information organised.

Your responsibilities will include
- Coordinating volunteers and keeping track of agreed tasks, deadlines and follow-ups
- Helping organise volunteer onboarding, meetings, activity logs and regular check-ins
- Supporting the coordination of educational programmes and other organisational activities
- Maintaining simple trackers, calendars and shared records
- Following up with volunteers and making sure important actions do not get lost
- Helping different areas of the organisation communicate and work together
- Identifying delays, gaps or practical problems and raising them early
- Helping improve simple coordination processes as the organisation develops
- Preparing brief updates on progress, outstanding actions and priorities.
You will not be expected to take responsibility for everything immediately. The role will begin with a clear set of tasks and gradually expand as you become familiar with Coempowered, our volunteers and our programmes.
We currently have volunteers working across education, communications, fundraising, programme administration, data and systems. The Coordinator will help connect these areas and reduce the amount of routine coordination currently handled by the Executive Lead.
We are particularly interested in someone who is dependable, communicates clearly and is comfortable following up with people. You should be able to work independently while knowing when something needs to be discussed or escalated.
This is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in a small organisation at an important stage of its development, with scope to help shape how our coordination systems work as Coempowered grows.
