What It's Like To Work Here
The North & West Lake District Landscapes Portfolio is a large countryside portfolio covering six valleys of the Lake District National Park, Wordsworth House & Garden in Cockermouth, and coastal land in the heart of Whitehaven.
Reporting to the Senior Community, Participation & Volunteering Manager, you'll be part of the Community, Participation and Volunteering (CPV) team in the North & West Lakes. This team of 4 sits within a wider property group of around 40 colleagues and 200 volunteers, working across a range of roles. In this role, you'll help support and develop volunteering across the area, with a particular focus on volunteers at Wordsworth House & Garden in Cockermouth.
What You'll Be Doing
You’ll support teams to deliver the full volunteer journey - from recruitment and induction to recognition and exit. You’ll embed inclusive practices, remove barriers, and ensure volunteers have a voice in shaping their experience. You’ll use data and feedback to improve systems and processes, and help colleagues build confidence in working alongside volunteers. Your work will help grow volunteer involvement and deepen its impact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
