Role Description
The Volunteer Football Academy Head Coach is responsible for leading and managing the club’s academy training program on a part-time basis. This hybrid role is based in Guildford, with on-pitch coaching, match-day duties, and player development activities conducted at the club, while planning, reporting, and some communication tasks can be completed from home. The Head Coach will collaborate with other coaches, coordinate with club leadership on schedules and academy objectives, and communicate regularly with players and families regarding training, matches, and performance. The role also involves maintaining standards of conduct, promoting the club’s values, and supporting the long-term development of the academy.
Qualifications
- Coaching and player development skills, including experience planning sessions and progressing players through structured training programs.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities to guide players, coordinate with staff, and engage with parents and guardians effectively.
- Organizational and time-management skills for scheduling sessions, managing team logistics, and maintaining training and attendance records.
- Understanding of safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety practices in youth and adult football environments.
- Relevant coaching certifications (e.g., FA coaching badges or equivalent) and familiarity with modern coaching methodologies.
- Ability to foster an inclusive, respectful, and motivating atmosphere for players of varied backgrounds and abilities.
- Comfort with basic digital tools for session planning, communication, and remote coordination in a hybrid working arrangement.
- Previous experience working in grassroots or academy football is beneficial, as is a strong commitment to volunteering and community engagement.
