Role Overview

You will play a vital role in securing grants, funding opportunities, and partnerships that promote the charity’s work to potential supporters. A practical and strategic role suited to someone who enjoys networking, developing opportunities and communicating the value of a charitable cause.

What Difference Will You Make?

The Life Matters is a charity dedicated to supporting suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and providing hope and support to individuals and communities. We raise awareness, build connections and support the development and promotion of effective approaches to suicide prevention. We are looking for a passionate volunteer to help secure funding that enables us to expand our impact.

As our Volunteer Fundraising & Bid Writing Manager, you will play a vital role in securing grants, funding opportunities, and partnerships that help sustain and grow our services.

Skills And Experience

We are looking for someone who

  • Has fundraising, business development, sales, partnerships or bid-writing experience.
  • Can communicate clearly and persuasively in writing and conversation.
  • Is confident building professional relationships and representing an organisation.
  • Can research, prioritise and follow opportunities through to completion.
  • Is organised, reliable and comfortable working independently.
  • Has excellent attention to detail
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality, safeguarding and sensitive communication.
  • Has an interest in suicide prevention, young people’s wellbeing, mental health or the wider charitable sector.

What Will You Be Doing?

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a proportionate fundraising plan based on the charity’s priorities and capacity.
  • Research suitable income opportunities, including charitable trusts and foundations, grants, corporate partnerships, community fundraising and individual giving.
  • Write and submit high-quality funding applications and grant bids.
  • Maintain a pipeline of funding opportunities, application deadlines and follow-up actions.
  • Draft or coordinate funding applications, proposals and supporting information.
  • Build relationships with and help to promote the charity’s services to potential funders, businesses, community groups and other supporters.
  • Represent and promote The Life Matters at relevant networking events, conferences and community activities.
  • Work with trustees and volunteers to develop clear information about the charity’s impact, plans and funding needs.
  • Help develop fundraising ideas, campaigns, materials, presentations and communications.
  • Ensure fundraising activity reflects the charity’s values and follows relevant policies, regulatory requirements and good practice.
  • Provide brief progress updates to the trustees, including opportunities, applications and income secured.

Support and Boundaries of Role

The volunteer will receive an induction, access to relevant information and regular contact with a nominated trustee. Fundraising commitments, applications and external statements must be agreed through the charity’s appropriate approval processes.

This role does not involve providing counselling, crisis intervention or professional mental health advice.

The role is voluntary and does not create an employment or trustee relationship. Reasonable, pre-agreed expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the charity’s expenses arrangements.
