Are you a graphic/motion designer?
We are looking for volunteer content creators to help publicise our community cinema on social media.
What difference will you make?
Last year we just about broke even financially. This year we are still just about breaking even but we aren't making much of a profit. This is a problem because in addition to needing to pay suppliers and staff, we know we are going to have to replace some of our equipment in the foreseeable future, and it's expensive. So we need to grow our audience and do some fundraising and both of those things require excellent marketing and content creation! That's where your knowledge and expertise will really help us.
Once we've stabilised our finances and bought the equipment, we have all sorts of fun, worthwhile and interesting projects in mind, but as they say, first things first.
What are we looking for?
- Experience creating engaging social media graphics and/or short-form motion content.
- Familiar with design software such as Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe After Effects, or similar creative tools.
- An eye for layout, typography, colour and visual storytelling.
- Able to follow brand guidelines while bringing fresh creative ideas.
- Interest in film, entertainment or social media trends would be great but not essential.

What will you be doing?
Ely Community Cinema was set up in 2025 by a group of volunteers and is almost entirely volunteer run - only our duty managers and projectionists are paid. We are based in the Maltings, Ely, and show films that people would otherwise have to travel to see, so indie and foreign language, art exhibitions, theatre on screen but also work made by amateur and local filmmakers. We generally show 8 films a month.
We already have a loyal audience and are particularly important to people in the town who don't drive or struggle to use public transport, and so find it hard to go to Cambridge or get to the Cineworld on the edge of Ely.

We have big plans but we need to grow our audience in order to achieve them. We are also going to have to fundraise for new equipment soon. At the moment our brilliant volunteer social marketer is doing everything on her own and has no more capacity, so we'd love some people to help her grow us on Facebook and Instagram - and maybe on other platforms too. If you join us you will
- Work with the social media marketer to develop ideas within brand guidelines, strategy and art direction.
- Create engaging social media graphics and/or short-form motion content using design software such as Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe After Effects, or similar creative tools (you will need to have your own account).
An interest in film, entertainment or social media trends would be great but isn't essential.
