Governance and regulatory compliance

• Advise on the governance of London LGBT Community Pride CIC and its obligations as a community interest company.
• Support compliance with the organisation’s Articles of Association, statutory responsibilities, policies and relevant regulatory requirements.
• Advise the Board and senior leadership on directors’ duties, delegations, decision-making and other governance matters.
• Support the review and development of governance documents, policies and internal procedures.
• Work collaboratively with the Company Secretary and other relevant leads to help maintain effective governance arrangements.

Commercial and contractual matters

• Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including contracts with public authorities, suppliers, production partners, sponsors, strategic partners, venues and service providers.
• Provide advice on contractual obligations, liability, indemnities, termination rights, insurance requirements and the management of commercial risk.
• Support teams to develop consistent and effective contracting and approval processes.
• Help ensure that contractual commitments are properly documented and understood by relevant stakeholders.

Data protection, intellectual property and compliance

• Provide advice on data protection and privacy matters, including compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
• Advise on intellectual property, licensing, branding and content-related matters.
• Support the development and review of relevant organisational policies and guidance.
• Work with teams across Pride in London to promote proportionate and practical legal compliance.

Claims and disputes

• Advise on potential or actual legal claims made by or against the organisation.
• Support the management of disputes, complaints, mediation and other resolution processes where legal input is required.
• Work with external counsel where specialist advice or representation is necessary.
• Help maintain appropriate confidentiality, privilege and record-keeping in relation to legal matters.

Event and operational delivery

• Provide timely legal advice in support of the planning and delivery of Pride in London and its associated events and programmes.
• Review event-related agreements, licences, permissions and operational arrangements where required.
• Be available during agreed key delivery periods to advise on urgent legal or contractual issues.
• Work calmly and collaboratively in a fast-moving, high-profile event environment.

Leadership and collaboration

• Act as a trusted and constructive adviser while maintaining appropriate professional independence.
• Build positive working relationships across the organisation and make legal advice accessible to colleagues without legal backgrounds.
• Support and, where appropriate, coordinate other legal volunteers or pro bono advisers.
• Promote Pride in London’s values and contribute to an inclusive, respectful and supportive volunteering culture.

What you will bring

Essential

• Qualification as a solicitor, barrister or appropriately qualified legal professional in a UK jurisdiction, with relevant post-qualification experience.
• Strong experience interpreting, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and other legal documents.
• The ability to provide clear, practical and proportionate advice with a high degree of professional judgement.
• Experience identifying and managing legal and commercial risk.
• An understanding of good organisational governance and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly.
• Confidence communicating with and influencing senior leaders and Board members.
• The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and respond effectively to time-sensitive matters.
• A collaborative, flexible and solutions-focused approach.
• A commitment to Pride in London’s values of visibility, unity and equality.

Desirable

• Experience working with a community interest company, charity, not-for-profit organisation or volunteer-led organisation.
• Knowledge of company law and the legal and regulatory framework applying to community interest companies.
• Experience in contract law, commercial law, data protection and UK GDPR including DSARs.
• Experience advising on intellectual property, licensing, employment or event-related legal matters.
• Experience managing disputes, mediation or legal claims.
• Experience working with external counsel or coordinating pro bono legal support.
• An understanding of the issues affecting LGBTQIA+ communities.
